The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Question about weapon damage
I'm not sure I understand how to work out weapon damage.
So, for every weapon there are 4 values:
1) price;
2) weight;
3) damage;
4) durability;

The damage value should be an indicator of the amount of damage each weapon does.
But in game every weapon has got the same amount (apart from weapon made of special materials)

At the beginning of the game, when I was in the sewers I had I steel sword, a dagger and an axe. Every one of them with damage value of 1. They had different weights so I thought to equip the lighter so to be faster (still not getting what's the point of a heavier weapon though) but the i realized that to kill a rat with a dagger it takes more blows than to killing it with a sword.
So there is obviously something wrong or that I don't get.

Can someone kindly explain me?

I think so, yes. I believe it would do 6x damage (what it says on screen), as opposed to 4x damage. Have fun!
It doesn't work that way. In Skyrim daggers do deal more damage than a sword when undetected, but Oblivion treats daggers and swords as blades. The 6x damage is obtained after becoming Apprentice in Sneak, and it affects every melee weapon (bows do 3x damage).
