The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Games like Oblivion
So I finally decided to purchase and play Oblivion again, after probably 5 years or so of not playing. It was wonderful experiencing Cyrodiil again, and I genuinely had a blast, further cementing it as my favorite Elder Scrolls game. Now that I've beaten the main storyline and the Shivering Isles DLC again, and am taking a short break from the game, I'm left wondering if there's any other games like Oblivion. Obviously there's Morrowind, and arguably New Vegas, but I already own both and have played them out. I'm looking for something I can immerse myself in and have a brand new feeling of wonderlust playing. Suggestions?

TL;DR I want to find more games like Oblivion, that give me similar experiences.

KOTOR 1 and 2 if you like Star Wars. They're more linear but still great roleplaying experiences. Try Arcanum, that game sucked up hundreds of hours of my later childhood. If you can get ti to run. Also the Might and Magic series are pretty fun. I only really played the older ones. the newest one i played was either 7 or 8, and i enjoyed it.
Actually just beat KOTOR 1 and 2 again, after not playing them for a year or two. Honestly two of my favorite Star Wars games. EA plz.

Have heard of Arcanum but haven't ever checked it out, I'll give it a look

I'd recommend Sacred 2. Maybe, while looking at this game for the first time, it doesn't seems to look like Oblivion, but as player, who spend about 400+ hours in it, I think that the creators of Sacred 2 definataly kept TES IV in mind and tried to change the gameplay to the way of it, so it's more dynamic than Sacred 1 (even though they also tried to save the best elements from the first game, of course).

In matter of quests and graphics the affection of Oblivion is even more noticeable - the style at all, stories, etc. The beggest problem is that Sacred 2 is buggy. But CM patch fixes a lot of the. I think, even the worst bugs in Sacred 2 aren't such a stupid compared to regular ones in Skyrim, because TES V is one bug bag, I'd say after 253 hours in it at all.

BTW, Sacred 1, most probably, would be also good game for you, but TES influence in it is much less.

Not too terribly worried about an exact copy of TES games, just want more open world adventure games. Just found my old Drakan CD that I'm gonna pop back in too

I really love Oblivion and was looking for the same. The Dragons Age series has a good fantasy storyline. The fighting style is more of a hack n slash, it took me a while to get into it. Diablo is the same style and has a good fantasy storyline as well. Elder Scrolls Online maybe? It depends what you're looking for. The fighting style or the story line.

Gothic 3 and Two Worlds 1 are your closest bets i think. I played only Two Worlds 1 and it feels pretty similar to Oblivion. Important difference between tw1 and Oblivion is that tw has significantly less content in termes of quests, i would say only 35% compared to content of Oblivion. Also tw is less immersive, cause you dont have books to read and the world is too random - no interesting npc's and no homes to break in. But still tw is good portion to enjoy and have a trip. On the other side tw has better combat system and looks somewhat better than Oblivion, so it has pluspoints

Mmmm..... Mount & Blade. is what I can think of, but it's not the big thing, I highlight his battles, its adictive. I do not think there is such a good game in his gender as oblivion. So the only thing I recommend is that you squeeze as much juice as possible from this masterpiece, if you lack the guilds you have not done "anything".

Maybe Fable or Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen? Maybe even the old fallout games?
Kenshi also just released - Maybe it could be a game for you too

There are tons of other great games. But I honestly think some of the great mods created for oblivion are worth taking the time to go through. Here are some of the best ones, in my opinion.
Ancient Towers
Ayleid Steps
Glenvar Castle
Dungeons of Ivellon
The Lost Spires
Malevolent
Midas Magic
OOO
Tears of the Fiend
Windfall

Each has interesting quests to go on and can add many hours to your experiences. If you haven't checked these out, at least watch some trailers for them or read reviews. They are really good.

Totally Agreed!

I also totally recommend Glenvar Castle, one of my fav player homes from the past... beware of incompatibilities with other known mods (ULs, Pell's Gate, Lost Spires, etc.), though as it's placed in a very contested area of Cyrodiil :)

And if I may, I'd like to add some more to that list too, from my personal favorites:
  • Rathunas
  • Integration: The Stranded Light -> not to everyone's tastes probably, but it's IMO one of the largest and more complex quests mods ever made... and that requires brain usage and RPing :)
  • AFK Weye (player home mod + an EXTENSIVE quest chain)
  • Knight of the Nine Revelations (astounding mod, impressive in scope and quality)
  • Reclaiming Sacre Tor -> post main quest
  • Gift of Kynareth -> short, to the point, but epic :)
  • Weapons of the Fallen Heros -> LotR weapons after a quest to get them.
  • Kragenir's Death Quest -> quests with a funny tone to them, some comedy too.
  • The Heart of the Dead
  • Frostcrag Reborn -> only if you have the Wizard's Tower DLC.
  • Mighty Umbra -> really good quest mod for a super OP weapon, but not for anyone that is RPing a Paladin, though!
  • some of Unique Landscape mods have quests, like Eastern Peaks and Beaches of Cyrodiil (IIRC)
  • Better Cities has quests in some cities and a new guild, but not sure if that's finally completed (it wasn't last time I played with it installed...)
  • Most of David Brasher's dungeons have some good, big and interesting quests too.
  • Mages Guild Quests and Fighters Guild Quests and Bane's Guilds United + Universitas Arcanorum provide a new experience to playing mages and mercenaries :)
  • Maskar's Overhaul -> It changes the game completely and even if it doesn't have quests (as of yet, at least that I know of,) it has bounties and repeatable stuff... also wandering NPCs and random events, it really makes the game alive and wandering in the wilderness become unpredictable and hazardous :)
  • Dark Brotherhood Chronicles, if you like the Dark Brotherhood and want some more of that.
  • Also, Morrowblivion is an option too, to extend the play time of Oblivion.
  • And finally, a total conversion: Nehrim! <3 -> lots of hours of play in a totally new world with different mechanics (mostly leveling and crafting and skill learning...)

As always, for any old mods, remember to check the comment section in the Nexus download for known issues and workarounds to issues that other's have found.

I'm a big fan of the older Fallout games as well.

Not sure if it has been mentioned, as I haven't read all pages/all comments... but have you checked Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magicka Obscura?

Big world (not all open from the start) and combat/gameplay is somewhat similar to the old Fallouts, but with the addition of Magick as a counter-aspect of technology :)

Heavily RPG... not only in dialogue options/choices and consequences aspect but also, you have to *really* invest your points with a plan in mind, and have an idea of what character you're playing.

Really old school :)

Here's the link -> https://store.steampowered.com/app/500810/Arcanum_Of_Steamworks_and_Magick_Obscura/

I have it from GOG myself :)

Recently been playing The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt, that's a open world fantasy game. If you want something less dark you could try the fable series, You can get Fable lost Chapters remastered on steam

Dragon Age Origins has the exact storyline of Oblivion but with choices.
