Lore question about the end of Shivering Isles
I'm a little confused by the ending of Shivering Isles.
With the Champion becoming Sheogorath, I originally presumed that was temporary, just to defeat Jyggalag. Is the Sheogorath we see in Skyrim the Champion, or an aspect? Like, the Hero was mortal, yet the Sheogorath in Skyrim was entirely insane and Daedric.

I was looking forward to him coming back after I defeated Jyggalag, and was kinda disappointed (and very confused) when he didn't.

:rk_cyclops::rk_cyclops: Some old spoilers for Oblivion and Skyrim stuff follow.

There are a number of oddball references to the hero/heroine of the previous game in Skyrim, like an elf claiming to have impersonated an adoring fan to assassinate the Arena Grand Champion...

I don't know if any of them are supposed to be canonical, because they can't all be true at once.

Anyway, I think they idea is similar to the Gray Fox in that the Sheogorath aspect was a curse laid on Jyggalag, and the only way he could be rid of it forever was for somebody else to take it.

The Prince of Madness that you see in Skyrim is in fact the Champion of Cyrodiil , who is also known as the Hero of Kvatch.

But how does he look like Sheogorath, and have the full power of a Daedric Prince?

I mean I know Hanskill said that the Staff gives you some of his pwer, and his voice, but he then said that you don't have the full power and the immortality of Sheogorath.

And I guess when Sheogorath turned into Jyggalag, that was the one you faced and the one that disappeared?

Sheogorath was always Jyggalag. The Champion breaks the cycle by defeating Jyggalag, thus ending the curse.
Sheogorath that the Dragonborn meets in Skyrim is the Champion. I don't know exactly about powers or appearance though, but it's true that the Champion is in fact Sheogorath.

Well I knew that Sheogorath was always Jyggalag, I was just confused about how the Champion could be him, even after reaching an age that he should be dead

it's called mantling; a concept whereby when any individual/s act in a manner befitting of a certain idea, such as the player character in morrowind retracing the steps of indoril nerevar, they effectively become indistinguishable from that idea, and become that idea

in essence the same thing happened to tiber septim, in how he 'became' talos, his actions and the people's belief in him made his worship basically indistinguishable from the eight, hence the 'eight and one'

the hero of kvatch basically became sheogorath because they acted out his will, and it's assumed that they began to act as he did, governed the isles as he did, and so on for such a period of time that the godhead found the two to be indistinguishable - made all the easier by his splitting (himself) with jyggalag

and thus the hero of kvatch mantled sheogorath in the same manner as the nerevarine did indoril nerevar

Hmm. Putting the Godhead into this makes a lot more sense. Thanks for explaining, was kinda driving me insane not understanding a piece of the lore

I always assumed that whoever becomes sheogorath takes on his form, or something along those lines.
