Question about difficulty
Okay so I was wondering about the difficulty of this game. Everyone say enemies level up with you and the game gets harder but right now I just hit level 14 and everything is getting easier. Everything dies in 1 hit pretty much to either a bow or sword or my magic, and I take virtually zero damage unless I purposefully let a bunch of enemies wail on me for "efficient levelling" purposes. Maybe you can tell me if my build is just OP for my level?

Level 14
RACE: Breton
BIRTHSIGN: The Lady (I wish I did Atronach in hindsight but ive played the game for 260 hours already so not restarting)
CLASS: Wizard
FAVOURED ATTRIBUTES: Endurance + Willpower

Health 308
Magicka 248
Fatigue 362

Strength 125
Intelligence 100
Willpower 100
Agility 30
Speed 45
Endurance 110
Personality 40
Luck 50

I went the 5/5/5 route as luck didnt really interest me. I prioritzied attributes in this order.... Endurance > Intelligence > Willpower ..... Strength > Speed > Agility..... > Luck/Personality. Currently I am on the str/agi/spd stage.

MAJOR SKILLS:
Conjuration 75
Destruction 75
Illusion 50
Mysticism 50
Restoration 55
Light Armor 30
Sneak 25

I have maxed alchemy(intelligence), alteration(willpower), and heavy armour(endurance) in my minor skills but that's mainly due to the efficient levelling process. I kinda regret picking one or two of the majors I did because they appear to be slow levellers. It would have been easier had I known which levels are quick to level up at lower levels and which are slow at higher levels lol. Again though I can restart as 260 hours in. If i did id almost certainly choose atronach sign.

The character I am roleplaying is a conjurer/mage, but tbh I can kill anything with any of the enchanted blade options i have...and since im now leveling agility ive noticed i can one shot with bow too with marksman level 15 lol, and thats WITHOUT a sneak attack...although the bow has an ice damage 40pts enchantment on it.

I'm grand champion of the Arena and Fighters Guild and have just been waiting until level 15 so I can get a mages staff to continue mages guild quests. Same goes for main story. I wanna sacrifice mace of molag bal but need to be level 17 for that so the main story has been on hold for the past 5 levels lol

So then why is the game so easy yet I hear all the time the game is impossible?

if you're efficiently leveling, and you're playing on default difficulty, then... y'know... efficient leveling was figured out for the express purpose of circumventing oblivion's damage sponging as much as possible

if you bump up the difficulty, or you level much beyond where loot stops scaling to, you'll soon find that even with efficient leveling you'll be outpaced by NPC health scaling relative to your DPS, which is the part that people chuck the ♥♥♥♥♥ about - it's not 'difficulty' so much as 'tedium'

but the way you talk about being able to one-shot enemies with that bow makes me wonder if you're just playing at minimum difficulty; bows are ludicrously underpowered in the base game without abusing sneak attacks and poisons

well I havent altered any difficulty settings so it would be whatever the default setting is. Actually this isnt entirely true I did alter the difficulty for one quest but it was one where i had to protect a bunch of npcs that were dying in one hit the battle of castle kvatch or something (i was fine) so i lowered the difficulty then put it back to the default so i could complete the quest without anyone dying lol. Im just referring to myself with this post tho.

And yeah here is the stats...

Agility 30
Marksman 0 (I was using a Drain spell to get more exp)
Glass Bow of Flames (Fire damage 15pts on strike)
Glass Bow of Freezing (Frost damage 15pts on strike). I use this on flame atronachs
arrow of cleansing (fire damage 40pts in 10ft for 2 secs on strike).
I even tried using iron arrows and everything still dies in pretty much one hit lol. I have alchemy 100 so can apply lethal poisons too.

Difficulty of the slider is in the middle

then again, in reference to marksman, this reminds me of one incident i had at kvatch

at the standard difficulty, i did manage to one-shot a fellow soldier (accidentally, i swear) with an elven bow, so i suppose depending on the base damage of the bow, it might be possible on some enemies

some daedra, too, with ice enchantments

oblivion's kinda tempramental, it seems

i put the slider up all the way. it was practically impossible with marksman at 15...plus I got 3hkod by a troll lol even with 110 endurance

You are not going to have problems with the game difficulty if you're using efficient leveling. That is the whole purpose of efficient leveling, so you don't fall behind.

You also neglected some of your attributes for the purpose of maxing out the more important attributes to your class. Now those are already maxed out at level 14, so npc's will never have a chance to catch up or surpass you.

Many people don't use efficient leveling, because it can be a little tedious micro managing skills. Those are the people that complain, when they fall behind on their skills and the game become too difficult.

oh i see :)

It's very easy to keep you character really powerful and cake-walk through the game.

There is a difficulty slider in the options that can make it a more challenging experience. I suggesy playing with that setting.
Nezkeys Nov 28, 2016 @ 10:24am
Yeah UdderJuice I had to use it once but honestly the mission was impossible. I had to protect the castle and like 4 npcs. there was always one npc dying as soon as he got in combat as I couldnt focus on all enemies at once. After trying like what seemed like 50 times I just turned the slider down and completed the mission :(

I turned it back up though. I may turn it all the way up not sure yet.

Yeah Im pretty much op but the one things I hate in the game is that you cant effectively roleplay if you're doing efficient levelling and honestly its a pain in the ass. You could do it morrowind due to unlimited training but this 5 training limit sucks. If there was decent controller support I would play on pc with mods but I tried that and it didnt work out to well
ManualMakron Nov 28, 2016 @ 12:48pm
If you're gonna move your slider to the right.. Move it up to 65%-75%. That's how I usually play. Moving it anymore beyond is pretty senseless.
