Altar of Spellmaking: Drain Skill
So you can't apply multiple drain skills to one spell?

it appears you cant do this for restore spells either, or summon spells.

Sigh. Damn I miss morrowinds magic system you could summon a whole posse lol

it also appears that many spells in the game are already better than anything you can create....because almost everything you try to create that's good ends up too high mp and/or can only be cast for like 5 seconds if that. I have maxed Intelligence on my breton and have 75 Destruction yet only have 244mp and many of the best spells i go to create i cant even cast because not enough mp. I created a "Fortify Magicka 30pts for 60 seconds" spell which was the best thing I could do at restoration level 50. It costs 50mp and 30 magicka isnt changing anything lol

heres another example...

summon zombie 120secs 100mp (max you can do with 75 conjuration at the altar)
summon zombie 30secs 25mp (standard game spell)

as you can see the game spell is cast 4 times = 100mp which is the same as the altar made spell. the difference is tho its easier to regen back 25mp than it is 100mp so the game spell is actually better?

you can also only have fortify of one skill on your gear so if you make two fortify strength pieces only one can be equipped. not sure why all these weird limitations. morrowinds system was far more fun

No, you can equip multiple items with the same or similar custom enchantments. That's how I got my speed up to 221.

Sure, it's inconvenient to not be able to fortify multiple attributes or skills at the same time, but on the other hand, it prevents you from doing fortify mercantile 800 for 1 second like I did in Morrowind. However, you can still mix fortify attribute and fortify skill to good effect. I made a spell that fortifies speed and athletics 100 points, for example.

I'm confused. That is NOT possible to do on my game.

1) I have two fortify strength rings for example (with 9 str on each from using oblivion gate stones on them). I equip one of them and I cant equip the other

2) I make a spell Fortify Strength (or drain strength for that matter) then try to add Fortify Endurance to the same spell but the Fortify Skill option has now disappeared. Clearly you can't do it

3) So I decide hey I'll make a few different spells and just cast them all at once to achieve the same effect. After making one fortify strength spell and one fortify endurance spell i cast the strength one, then when i go to cast the endurance one it wont let me

4) also figures of 800 are simply not possible so not sure how you come up with that figure. Im level 75 in all spells but I cant see being 100 in them suddenly making me do 800 pts in one. My max mp is 244 atm (level 14) and any decent spell I try to make has a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ duration and is already 240mp or something...which is kinda pointless cause then I have no mp left and have to rwait for regen or use potions to restore it,...when i wanna use potions to put things like paralyze on my weapons etc

EDIT: btw I am playing on the ps3 GOTY version

o_O

The only restrictions I've seen are:
  • you can't equip two of the same standard ring, e.g. two rings of treachery
  • you can't make a spell with the same effect twice, e.g. fortify two attributes
  • you can't have two conjured monsters at the same time
So while I can't make a spell that does fortify strength and endurance either, I can make a spell that does fortify strength and blunt, and I can cast spells that fortify strength and fortify endurance separately.

I'm playing the PC version, so maybe it's a PS3 thing?

As for fortify 800pts, that was a Morrowind thing. Really, it was a spell that had eight fortify attribute or skill 100 points effects. 800 mercantile was enough to haggle all purchases to free and all sales to all the gold the merchant has, so it's good that's impossible in Oblivion.
