The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Game crashing at Sewer entrance (Tutorial)
Basically, I've just installed Oblivion... I checked the requiremetns and such, and my computer should definitely be able to play it. I got to the part where the Emperor gives you the amulet, then when i try to enter the sewers my game just crashes... Help please!

Crash when... entering sewers. Not exiting. That's, uh... That's weird. Especially on a fresh install with no mods.

-Try typing "player.coc ImperialSewers03" into the console (press ~) rather than using the door. If that doesn't work, type "player.coc ICPrisonSewerExit01" to skip the sewers entirely.
-Try making a new character, just to quickly test things out, run past all the enemies and see if you can enter the sewers as that character. You'll be able to edit this character to change their face, birthsign, etc at the sewer exit.
-If none of these help, the only other solution I can find is opening Oblivion.ini and changing "bUseWaterShader=1" to 0.
-If all else fails, try an alternate start mod (though if Solution 1 didn't work, this probably won't help).

If none of that fixes it, I have no idea.

Nope, none of that has worked... Although i can't find the Oblivion.ini to change it. Absolutely devastasted as i gave in to nostalgia and bought the game, got through to near the end of the tutorial and it keeps crashing. Ffs.

So "player.coc ICPrisonSewerExit01" didn't work either? Immediate crash? It's almost definitely something to do with your settings, and I would guess it is the water shader.

Though I'm surprised you managed to run through the entire sewers with a new character AND install and test an alternate start mod in 20 minutes. XD

You could also try "player.coc CheydinhalAbandonedHouseBasement" (or any indoor cell). If it works indoors but not outdoors, try installing this. Follow instructions carefully. https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/45576/?

Perhaps this is the most stupid and cliche suggestion ever, but have you tried unsinstalling it and then reinstalling it? I’ve had similar crashing problems with steam games before and that has usually fixed it. It sucks because you lose your save a lot of the time unless you make backups, but it’s well worth a try especially since you’re not far in the game. I’m no technical expert, but I’ve been in your situation before so I feel obliged to help.

were have you installed the game to ? C;/Program files X86 is the worst place for this game,

Are you running any mods ? or is this a stock game ?

My first suggestion would be to verify game cache. Then a clean reinstall, and as Evil Doctor Porkchop said, install somewhere other than program files X86. If that doesn't do it, I am at a loss. Only other thing I could suggest is checking video settings. I have had a few weird reactions in Oblivion when it was set to bloom. I prefer shutting off both bloom and HDR.
