The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Combat stuttering
So I recently had to move Oblivion to another drive because it took too much space.
I got a fresh install and whenever I engage in combat the game freezes for 2 seconds and whenever I disengage combat it freezes twice for 1 second. I

I have no mods at all and I'm trying to keep it without OBSE (or mods in general).
If anyone knows a fix, please respond.

Thanks

Does it also freeze when the music changes? Such as when you're in a town?

If it does, your issue is almost certainly audio codecs. Main offender: DivX. The moment I uninstalled DivX, this problem resolved itself.

If you don't have DivX, look up other programs with audio codecs that can conflict with Oblivion.

I don't know. I'm still in the tutorial because of this. I will test now.

I can't really see it very well, since there's loading screens. There might be a little delay of when the loading screen appears, though. Not sure.

Also, before this I didn't have any problems whatsoever with the game. And I don't seem to have DivX

Any codec packs like K-Lite? Other conflicting codecs are Nero (Nero AAC Codec), Vodei (Vodei Multimedia Processor), and Moonlight. Also saw something about Arcsoft HD. Basically, if you have video/audio processing/compressing/etc software of ANY kind, look there first.

However, if you have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about, chances are, you don't have a program like this installed.

Try this thread, one user posts a few helpful troubleshooting quotes (check page 2 as well).

Ok: I don't even know if this was the intended solution, but I ran Oblivion.exe. It worked perfectly and when I then ran the launcher through steam, everything was fixed. (What in the world!)

I'll have to see how this goes further.
Thank you for your help and time, sir!

Alright. Only after a few hours it came back. Now nothing helps.
Welp
