Playing Oblivion without steam?

Does anyone know if Oblivion is playable without Steam? Can you launch it with the .exe file? I want to take my external HD with me to play it outside of the home. I have my games stored on my HD but was wondering if I needed to download steam to another computer to play Oblivion?

sorry dude, you need to log-in in your steam account, so you must download steam in the other pc, and then log-in with your steam account (or, if you dare, download the pirate version of oblivion :v ...)

If download rate is an issue. But you can still connect from where you're going to. You can download the most recent version of steam to your external plus your games. You'll need to install there and some files will be downloaded that need to be verified. But it should keep the amount down.

Your games on your external will work too. So long as you tell Steam where they are in settings. Should be in download locations or something. When you go to play the game. The game name will be greyed out, but if you click install. Provided you've done it right. It'll just check the files are good and are all there.

If you have a physical copy of the game you can play it without steam.

IDK if it's an option as you'd have to spend some extra money, but you could get the GOG version of Oblivion... that one doesn't require anything extra to run.

Steam's DRM implies that all games need to be ran with Steam activated.

That doesn't mean you can't pin the game to the desktop or taskbar, though.
