The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Can anything game breaking happen if you just change your name through the showracemenu command?
I actually own the physical edition of the game, and it didn't come with any code so I have played it that way but I doubt that matters.I came up with the most retarted name in existence because I didn't know what to name my new character and I'd like to just change that and I was wondering if there are any consequences to doing that that could affect the game.I couldn't really find any information regarding that online so I decided to ask here. Thanks in advance!

You can edit anything except race/class (mostly name and appearance) by using showracemenu.

Just don't press DONE at the end!! Instead do this: When you're done with the edit,
1. open console,
2. press ESC to open the main menu, and
3. do a new save to a new slot.
4 close console and
5 load the save you just did.

If you do that in the exact steps, you'd be able to edit anything cosmetic on your character without screwing it up at all.

PS: If you open the ESC menu with the console not open, the SAVE menu will be disabled... opening the console first is a trick that allows to save the game while in the showracemenu mode. You don't need to exist the showracemenu, just load the saved game from it and it should load the new state that you just saved.

Hope it works for you! I know I use it all the time to tweak my chars :P

Also, I forgot to add the easier method! For editing your name specifically, there's an easier method, by using SetActorFullName on the console, like this:

Open ~ console,
player.SetActorFullName "Johnny"

Replace Johnny with whatever you want :P

That same operation can be done for renaming any actor, like your horse, for example. Just click it while the console it's open and remove the "player." from the command.

I didn't know about that trick which doesn't screw up anything.I'll keep it in mind in case I decide to change my characters more.
Thanks for telling me about the setactorfullname command!I didn't know about it's existence.I'll use that to change my name.

you shouldn't face any problems by changing names, you can freely edit any character's name and it won't screw up the game, no worries
