The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Complete 100% Uninstall of Oblivion? [RESOLVED]
Hey everyone! does anybody know how to 100% delete everything for a complete uninstall of Oblivion? I uninstalled Oblivion once, reset my PC, and deleted the folder off of "steamapps/common" location. When I reinstall Oblivion and head to the "data files" section of the game it shows mods I don't even have in my NMM but are somehow in the game? I ignored it and tried adding some mods to the game but now whenever I play the game it would crash depending on certain mods I'd have active, and if I played around and deactivated some, then I'd get to the title screen, but starting a new game would crash my game too.

Should I be deleting the folder that's in "Documents/my games/" too?

I just want to install some mods to make my game look better like Oblivion Character Overhaul 2 and Oblivion reloaded so my game can look prettier but these two are the main culprits behind the game crashing.

btw I have the unoffical patch, unofficial dlc patch, and unofficial shivering isles patch installed in case that matters. also have "MenuQue - OBSE Plugin" installed and "alternative start arrive by ship" mod installed too because I love that mod.

I hope someone out here can help me because I love Oblivion and it's my favorite of the Elder Scrolls series, but now I want to experience it with the communities awesome mods.

EDIT: Issue has been resolved using OMM helped.

gotcha! I'll give it a shot then thanks for the reply. so with that said should I even worry about certain mods in the game that appear in my data files and work even though I don't have them installed in NMM? the one in question I have is UOP Vampire Aging Face Fix that's not in my NMM but it was installed with NMM before a long time ago when I had Oblivion installed and eventually uninstalled.

It's most likely you installed some of the mods manually before but just forgot about them.

even if that's the case I'm still confused as to why it's somehow still part of my data files when I uninstalled Oblivion at one point and even deleted the entire folder from steam too. I suppose as long as it doesn't interfere with the game then I'll be happy, though for some reason Oblivion keeps crashing everytime I quit the game completely.

The crashing part is a common bug. I don't really care about it because all you're doing is quitting the game.

very true. figured I'd mention it just in case that somehow had to do with the other mods ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up somehow. now I guess I'll be playing aroung with OMM and hoping this works out for me. should I remove all the mods from NMM and reinstall them using OMM or does leaving them activated in NMM seem like a better choice?

To get a complete uninstall, you'll need to remove it as usual through Steam and then delete the install folder itself under ../SteamApps/common/ to remove any remaining mods. Once that's done, delete all the Oblivion folders under My Documents, especially any that are associated with a manager.

I'm guessing you installed Reloaded and OCO incorrectly, because you should've been able to just uninstall them through a manager. Do not use NMM with TESIV or install mods manually and please read the mod descriptions in the future. Crashing and errors are generally caused by missing file dependencies or mistakes during installation.

Yes, reinstall them on OMM

I installed both Reloaded and OCO with NMM and I was able to uninstall them through the manager too. What I was referring to with certain mods sticking around was one I had for fixing the vampire aging that is still in the game despite not being in NMM. Either way seems the solution is to remove NMM so I'll do just that.

I'll do just that then thanks.

Use NMM if you're installing OCO v2. The author explicitly said so. However, there's a "Seamless OCO" version which you can install without using NMM.

using NMM is what caused the crashes in the first place. I started using OMM and it actually works without crashes so it seems sometimes even the mod author can be wrong sometimes.

You can do whatever you want. It's really up to you, but you can't blame NMM for crashes if you don't understand the nature of your issues. You obviously did something wrong to cause the crashes. NMM is not to be used with Oblivion, but certain author's have provided wizard instructions for NMM which works fine. Otherwise not advisable. The best program to use with Oblivion is Wrye Bash, which people usually don't have the patience for. I'm glad you resolved your issue.

This portion confuses me. if NMM is not to be used with Oblivion, then why is NMM designed to look and scan for Oblivion to allow you to download and add mods for it?

you know what...nvm in the end the issues have been resolved and I'm good now.
