Skyrim also has a far more drab color pallete in general so the dark in dungeons doesn't really have much to contrast with compared to the darkness in the wild or in cities. Compare that to Oblivion where dungeons are freaking dark and the outside world is vibrant and bright it's literally a night and day difference
Too, it's more difficult. Broken armor and hammers, while frustrating, provided an interesting dynamic to consider. The right micromanagement in the right atmosphere makes an RPG.
Dungeons are darker, monsters scarier, especially that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ghost thing when you get exiled from the dark brotherhood
Though mostly because of the way the game works, you sometimes don't find an enemy's presence until they literally hit you from behind, startling the hell out of you.
And I startle easily.
Daggerfall has given me more than a few jump scares.
I'm using some Undertale music for the Dungeon music to make them more relaxing. Also the Companion Vilja mod is very cool.
