I just rage quit Oblivion (AGAIN)
Hello guys, i played Skyrim so many more hours then Oblivion, so i though i give Oblivion a try again, after 12 hours, i did around 30 quests, and i have the feeling that i didnt do anything, because every enemy is just so hard to beat, stupid Oblivion creatures take around 20 arrows or 30 blade strikes, my weapons get damaged after 1 cave, and stupid fast travel.... you cant fast trael cuz enemies are nearby, OK TELL ME WHERE. Then the stupid trolls, oh boy the trolls, WTF IS WRONG WITH THEM, take around 50 hits and chase me around the world, one of these things chased me for 15 minuts and i didnt had any arrows and my blade was damaged. And the people like you system, wtf, i helped one shopkeeper in a quest, she said im always welcome, 2 hours later i need her in another quest, and she said im a stranger and said i should leave her shop, wtf. Im sure Oblivion was as it was realesed a great game, but i prefer Skyrim and Morrowind.

Ikr. Try to use Vanilla Combat Enhanced. Tweak it a little to your preferences.

1. Get good with summon spells (I usually go picking herbs while my Clannfear fights for me)
2. Join mage guild, do all recommendations, enchant your own weapons and armour at the University and create your own spells (When I can hit a mob for 150 damage in 3 seconds, fights dont last long)
3. Mod the crap out of the game until you are happy (optional)
- eg. Companion Vilja mod can fight for you if you tell her to (I don't), XP update mod if you hate the levelling system, Francescos Creatures and Items if creatures are too strong

Yeah VCE makes melee combat tighter.
You can deal more damage and will get mor damage.
Yesterday my level 7 mage of 150 health got killed with only 2 strike by pirates in waterfront hotel's quest.

Wait Sleep and Fast Travel Nearer Enemies [www.nexusmods.com]
I don't use this myself but it may allow you skyrim style fast travel.

I love Oblivion but I've experienced some of the things you're mentioning. I do think the weapon/armor decay thing is something i could do without. This was common back in the day to try to give roleplaying games a "survival" flavor, but it has too many side efects on game balance.

I could also do without the world scaling. Even without the Attribute leveling problems, it takes me out of the game when too many Bandits are equipped with Daedric bows and Glass armor.

You really need to play attention to your skills and stats in this to stay effective. Generally, to be effective with melee I make and drink Restore Fatigue* potions (the ingerdients are common and cheap) before attacking, and try to make my swings count. For archery, I make and use Damage Health potions, and use Sneak Attacks as much as possible. For mages. Destruction magic is best used with Restore Magicka, Potions of Sorcery, and Welkynd Stones to keep your Magicka up. Waiting for it to regen on it's own is not practical unless you're combining it with melee or archery attacks. Ranged combat in general is hard to stay in 100%, so you will often have to melee some things to finish them off. (None of this is a problem at low level because the enemies are so weak, at Level 1 you can wipe out most of Vilverin with arrows or spells without a scratch.)

Weapons with elemental damage enchantments end up being much more useful than most others, because of the massive damage sponges that are everywhere at higher level.

As for repairs, if you buy lots of Repair Hammers and repair your own stuff after each fight your Armory skill rises quickly, but keep in mind you need 50 to fix enchanted gear, so try to have that level before you're relying on enchanted stuff in every fight. Buy training if you need to. This is training for your Endurance stat which controls Health gains per level, so keep that in mind.

The play style of this game is just different from most of what came before or after it, and takes some getting used to. Or you can just mod it. I hope you find something that works for you.

* It will bother me forever that they mean Stamina. Fatigue is the absence of Stamina. Words mean things, dammit. :blackwidow::blackwidow:

I came back to this game and ended up making my own balance mod, primary changes being an increase of the damage modifiers that are given by your Strength and Skill level.
Combat is much better paced without being Call of Duty insta-gibbing.

I also modified the amount of times you have to increase a skill to get the bonus points for your attributes. You still have to really try to get +4 or +5, but you'll more often get +3s without dedicated training.

It was mostly just to see if I could do it, but I also reworked Athletics and Fatigue to work like Morrowind, where running will drain your (and your enemies) stamina. The Athletics Perks are changed so that they reduce the strain of running, with Expert and Master levels allowing you to regenerate whilst running.
I wouldn't say it's better balanced, but it encourages you to be more careful, and offers some distinct advantages for training Athletics.

Lower your difficult a bit. That what I did, now it only take 2-3 arrows to kill a wolf instead 20 :xd

go into options and turn the difficulty down

It gets around level 10 - 20 its ridiculosuly hard then when you break trough 20 the game gets a lot easier.
Personally I find Oblivion much easier than Skyrim 'cos I can control when I level, both by choosing when to sleep, & by building my character's custom class around my levelling strategy (that being said, I have my own custom classes mod containing ~15 of said levelling strategies).

Oblivion is cool, you just need some time to get used to. I was struggling at first too

Quicksave and reload to reset enemy agro in case they are far away but won't allow you to travel.

I've also had an easier time as a Spellblade in Light Armour using Blade, Destruction, Alteration and Conjuration than as a full Warrior in Heavy Armour. Conjured creatures can distract enemies, Alteration allows you to buff your defence quite a bit, and creating a powerful Touch Destruction or Steal Health spell can also go a long way in melee. A high Sneak level is also ridiculously overpowered, especially combined with stacking Chameleon enchants on gear or casting Illusion spells. Alchemy is also convenient because there are ingredients EVERYWHERE, meaning you can make lots of restore health and fatigue potions for free.

And that easy time was without getting my skills up high before starting to level up my actual level, I was even spamming Conjuration and Alteration to level them up quickly.

maybe make your major skills something you're not going to level up, the lower your total level the easier enemies are, so to say if i were level 3 but have 100 blade i would knock npcs around pretty easily

Yeah I never liked melee in Oblivion, magic all the way. And the levelled enemy HP thing was a bit much.

There are lots of mods avaiable as people have suggested, but if you aren't interested in modding just to try and enjoy the game:

Introducing, an overpowered thing!
