The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

[SOLVED] I'm having problems installing Wyre Bash
I'd like to start modding Oblivon, but almost all the graphical mods I come across on the Nexus tell me to use Wyre Bash, unfortunately, I'm having issues installing it. My Steam games are located in my program files, but Wyre Bash recommends I don't install it there. I'd rather not disable UAC for security reasons, so my only other option would be to move my games to another location. The problem is I'm not sure how to move Oblivion and Skyrim without damaging the files. Skyrim is heavily modded and I'd rather not start from scratch. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

Actually, Wrye Bash is most useful when you have items which are added to the level lists in the game because it allows you to make a bashed patch, which merges all of the lists, allowing everything to show up in game.

For graphic mods about any mod management utility would work.

Do you know Symbolic link is available on windows now ( I didn't remember but at least win8 and win10 can handle symbolic link)
You can move actual Oblivion folder out from program files.
Then Makelink /d Oblivion "<your new location path>"

I usually use this symbolic link to switch my Oblivion folders.
But i'm not sure this will solve your uac problem cuz my steam folder is not in Program files.

am i missing something, or is there some reason you can't just make a second steam library outside of program files, and just install oblivion there?

I thought he said his game was already modded, but I guess he said only Skyrim was. So if Oblivion is not modded already he could do that just for Oblivion, otherwise he may still have to deal with transferring existing files.

Yes, only Skyrim is modded, sorry that wasn't clear. I figured I would install Wyre Bash for both games. I'm not at my PC at the moment, but I will try reinstalling steam to another location when I get back to it. Thanks for the help.

you don't have to reinstall steam, you can just go settings > downloads > steam library folders and make another library folder outside of program files, and set oblivion to install there

if oblivion is already downloaded, then you can just make a backup from it, uninstall oblivion and re-install it to the new directory

The installation was successful, Wyre Bash and Oblivion are running fine. Thank you and everyone else who posted. I apologize for my lack of technical knowledge, I'm still fairly new to modding.
