start off with the main quest. You'll find lots of good stuff along the way and level up a few times too

Join the Arena to get the armor. The raiments have 2000 health and can be repaired for 1 gold. Fight a few matches to make some easy money and quit when they start getting too tough. Don't forget to save your game.

Then head to the Gray Mare in Chorrol and start the quest Seperated at Birth by speaking to Reynald Jemane. While in Chorrol you can join the Fighters and Mages guild. Start the recommendation quest for the mages Guild.

While at the Mages guild grab all the Alchemy Apparatus laying around and sell them. If you complete all the recommendation quests for the Mages guild in each city, you can make a hefty amount of gold by selling all the apparatus items.

Then go to Weynon Priory and speak to Jauffre, he has some free gear to offer you and you can borrow the priors horse. Use the horse to complete the recommendation quest.

After completing the recommendation quest travel to Cheydinal and finish the Seperated at Birth quest. While you wait for the NPC to travel to Chorrol, do the recommendation quest for the Mages guild there, it is quick and easy. You should also grab all the Alchemy apparatus there and sell them.

Go to Bravil and begin the recommendation quest. You do not have to complete it until you go to the Imperial City. Don't forget to jack all the Alchemy apparatus and sell them. Then head back to Chorrol to finish Seperated at Birth and then start the next quest Legacy Lost.

When you finish the quest Legacy Lost, you will have to wait 3 game days to flag the final quest in that questline Sins of the Father.

You will be asked to retrieve an item. It is a very strong and durable sword called Honorblade of Chorrol. Keep it and don't complete that quest until you are level 25, at which time you are rewarded with the strongest version of the Escutcheon of Chorrol.

While you are waiting for those 3 game days to pass, travel to Crestbridge camp which is far South of Cheydinhal across the bridge near a river and start the quest Goblin trouble.

While in Timberscar Hollow you will find 2 Goblin Totem Staffs, which are very valuable and strong for a low level character.

Once you complete the quest, travel to Vindasel, which is Southwest of the Imperial City Waterfront.

There you will fight the NPC Umbra and kill her for her armor and sword. Make sure you save your game because she might kill you.

The easiest way to kill her is to jump up high where she can't hit you and blast her with the Goblin Totem staff until she dies.

Then proceed to the rest of the cities to complete their recommendation quests. Make sure to take all the Alchemy apparatus and sell them in each city.

After 3 days passes return to Chorrol and finish the Sins of the Father quest for the Honorblade of Chorrol.

Now you should have two high damage swords and good armor. If you completed all of the recommendation quests and sold all the apparatus items you should have alot of gold.

Go to Bruma and buy the Gauntlets of Gluttony from the smith there. They add Strength +15 and are very durable.

The Dark Brotherhood questline is amazing! I personally enjoyed it much more than Skyrim's. You might want to wait/save this one, though.

Also, the daedric shrine quests are fantastic. You have to be a certain level for some of them, so I'd progress a little bit before giving them a try.

First thing I'd do is explore. :)

In terms of game engine differences to skyrim: Probably the big one is that in Oblivion you have 8 attributes, whereas in skyrim there's none.

Attributes [Strength,Intelligence,Willpower,Agility,Speed,Endurance,Personality,Luck], all effect the character in subtle ways in addition to what skills do. Most importantly: Apart from Luck, each attribute has 3 skills which, if practiced will level up that attribute a certain amount. For e.g. Blade, Blunt and Hand to Hand skill, all are tied to the Strength attribute. I'd maybe have a bit of a read here:

http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Attributes

As for levelling up attributes in game: 1-5 skill gains levels the attribute +2, 6-7 levels it +3, 8-9 by +4, 10 by +5.

So for e.g. if you gain 4 blade and 2 hand to hand skill in one level up period, your strength can be increased by +3 on level up.

What sort of character are you currently playing?

Well my character's name is Filthy Dave and he is a Bosmer character born under the sign of Thief. Also i made my custom class called filthy class. When i was playing skyrim i always played a heavy armor fighter type of character. But i want to try something else.I want to play as a sneaky thief assassin. So i picked a wood elf cause they are apparently good at bows and i thought it was a good thing.

Aaah, a stealth archer. Good character to start with . :)

The Thieves Guild and Dark Brotherhood quest lines are definitely the go then. You have to murder someone to begin the Dark Brotherhood questline, and talk to a beggar about the gray fox to begin the Thieves guild questline.

May I recommend Alchemy as something to practice too. Alchemy in Oblivion is very trivial to increase: Unlike in Skyrim, food items are treated as alchemical ingredients, not a seperate thing on their own. Mash food together and you get Restore Fatigue potions and Alchemy skill. There are lots of farms around the land that can help with this, and after joining the Mages guild you should have access to plenty of alchemy equipment.

Also unlike Skyim: The stealth system in Oblivion is very black and white. You're either detected or you aren't, and once you hit someone they get a big bonus to detect you. That said, once your sneak skill is high enough you can, like in Skyrim, sit in the shadows and repeatedly sneak attack people with your bow, which is very satisfying.

Best of luck!

Oh thank you!

Welcome. I always start Bethesda games with a stealth archer, they're a good exploratory character. I admire your choice :)

In a thread not long ago I made a suggestion for a stealth archer character build. Oblivously you've already made yours, but the skills it uses might give you some ideas. :)

Male Bosmer, Thief Sign, Stealth Specialisation, Endurance/Luck.

Major Skills: Marksman [40], Sneak [40], Light Armour [35], Athletics [25], Mercantile [30], Restoration [25], Armorer [25].

Starting Stats: Str 30 Int 40 Will 30 Ag 60 Sp 60 End 45 Per 30 Luck 65.

Minor Skills of note: Acrobatics [15], Alchemy [15], Alteration [10], Conjuration [5], Illusion [5], Mysticism [5]. These skills can all be levelled quickly, hence why they are kept as minors. At some point, it may be useful to use Blade/Blunt/Hand to Hand on weaker enemies, or to finish off wounded enemies, in order to increase the character's strength [even if its not very effective]. Feather spells from Alteration should aid its low encumberance.

In a nutshell: A self-sufficient and Swift Stealth Archer-Mage. Stays at range as much as possible, mainly using a bow. Uses support magic to heal or buff self if necessary, and can repair their own equipment.

With minor skill practice [Jumping for Acrobatics, Protect for Alteration, Converting food into potions for Alchemy, Bound Dagger/Summon Skeleton for Conjuration, Starlight for Illusion, and Minor Detect life for Mysticism], they can add Homemade Potions/Poisons, Summoned Allies, and a wide range of support magic to the mix.

In the end: they would make an ideal Assassin [Thieves Guild/Dark Brotherhood] with the ability to brew an array of interesting poisons, that can be attached to Bows and shot from the shadows. As well as this, they could hold their own in a face to face fight, using a Summoned Creature to take point, and casting support magic (such as Fortification Buffs, Shield, Detect Life, Silence, Frenzy and Paralysis), all in addition to standard archery.

Oblivion > Skyrim

the thing between oblivion and skyrim is simple. skyrim is very set in stone. do quests, new armor, level up. oblivion is way more open world. dont feel obligated to go out and do quests. you can make your own story. make your own adventure

Yeah no, they're the same in this regard.
