Shivering Isles potions?
Title. Even though I'm a mage I've never enjoyed alchemy and have always found
enough money from loot to afford plenty of health and sorcery potions.

Now I've started Shivering Isles and there's nowhere a potion to be bought.
Looking at various online guides and this forum I see nowhere to buy a
potion in the Shivering Isles. There's a fair number of enemy sorcerers you
can kill as you travel around but the maybe 2-3 potions they drop aren't going
to be nearly enough to get me through this expansion, lol. Do I just have to
"git gud" by learning to fight better or do I need to grind a long time to up my
alchemy skill? I'd rather just be able to find a merchant which I'm still hoping
to do as I haven't completely explored the map yet, ha ha.

There is hardly any shops at all on the Isles, and those that do appear have very limited stock (FYI there is a guy who sells some new summons that you might want to check out). When you need to restock return to the places where you would have otherwise gotten your potions.

You also can't invest in any shops so it is much harder to get your moneies worth for high level items.

Not really much in Passwall (that litlle area at the start), so you might have to bide your time until you reach the city of New Sheoth. Two shops in Crucible (the city's southern section) might have what you want. They're called "Things Found" and "Earil's Mysteries". Over on the northern part (Bliss), you might want to check the store "Common Treasures".

Thanks guys. Things seem pretty sparse all right. I've been to New Sheoth but I may
have missed 'Things Found'. Will look for it again.

On the bright side, if you need to, you can go back to Cyrodil, buy some healing potions, and re-enter the Shivering Isles.

Oh, am I dumb--I just ASSUMED once you were in SI you had to stay til the quest line
was finished. Okay, live and, hopefully, learn--lol.

Be aware that there is a certain event late in the SI main quest chain, where you will be unable to leave the Shivering Isles until you resolve the situation.

Oh, wow, the plot thickens, lol. TY.

TBH I'd be inclined to try and invest a bit of time in Alchemy: there's a lot of room to be creative with it, albeit it is a little time consuming. There's quite a few new potion ingredients to be found on the Isles too.

If you're worried about levelling it: Visit some farms and mash food together. :)
