For those having problems with the Oblivion Launcher and/or OBSE
Hey all, I should write this here in case anyone was having the same problem as me.

I had a big problem with Oblivion (Steam Version). It would open the launcher, and immediately crash, before the setup could detect my hardware. I tried everything, and after a lot of googling, figured out that renaming Oblivion.exe to OblivionLauncher.exe (and backing up the original launcher, of course) would do the trick.

Ok, so now I could play the game normally. Cool. But... What about all those sweet mods that require OBSE? Well, OBSE would not work at all!!!!!

So, after many, many hours off googling, trying different solutions, learning what worked for some people but not for others, I have come up with the definitive solution for those having the same problem as myself.

The trick to make Oblivion work, was renaming Oblivion.exe to OblivionLauncher.exe, so Steam was tricked into launching the game directly, enabling me to play. However, OBSE seemed to have a problem with this, I don't know if it needed the launcher or what. So, in another thread I learned that there was a very old OBSE loader that should work. But, using the loader meant not launching it through Steam, so OBSE would simply not load.

So the final ultimate trick was: Download the working loader (http://media.steampowered.com/content/obse_loader.zip), and then make a backup of the original Oblivion Launcher, then rename THE DOWNLOADED OBSE LOADER to OblivionLauncher.exe. Then launch the game normally through Steam, and voila!!!!!

Hope this helps anyone having the same problem!!

Ok, I know I'm late for this, but if you don't see .exe, it's probably because windows is configured to hide file extensions. Just rename OblivionLauncher to something else, that you'll remember later if needed, and then rename Oblivion (or obse_loader if you're trying to use OBSE, which is a mod) to OblivionLauncher. :)

But isn't steampowered base loader outdated?
I am afraid that loader cannot load latest OBSE 21.

Indeed, it can't if you run it directly, but renaming it to OblivionLauncher makes steam run the loader instead of the default oblivion launcher. While doing this, it forces steam community overlay to load, also loading OBSE. It's weird, I know, but... It works!
