The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Game of the Year Edition (2009)

Am I the only one?? 😢
Oblivion doesn't feel like Oblivion anymore, if you know what I mean. I get on and I get bored of this game and the graphics look so bad now. I remember back in the good old days I used to jump on this game for hours on end enjoying the quests, scenery and pretending I'm actually living in it ...now that's all changed :(

I still enjoy it, both vanilla and modded - one of my favourite games of all time - sadly i can't get back into Morrowind anymore...maybe one day.

No, did you read the OP's post? As you said it isn't hard.. ;)

No, he was showing the OP that if he is tired of Oblivion because the graphics have aged poorly, there are mods to VASTLY improve it.

I personally think Oblivion's vanilla graphics are fine. I'm not insane - it's just that I bought and played Oblivion the day it released, so for me it looks good now just like it did then.

If I bought and played it for the first time today I would probably need to use mods.

You've lost something, brother. You grew up and lost the ability to pretend and to play. So sad.

I think that happens to us all. In my younger days, playing Oblivion (or WoW), I didn't feel like I was playing a game. I felt like I was in that world. 3, 4, 5, 6 hours could fly by and I was IN that world. It wasn't a game, it was a second life.

Now I'm 29... it's hard to get lost in a game like I used to. Not impossible though. I tend to only play for an hour or two at the most now but I can still get lost in a good game. Oblivion is one such game I can get lost in. I always could.

I did the Hackdirt questline in Oblivion the other day, I got lost for two hours saving Dar-Ma from the freaks, sneaking around and breaking in to all their houses and looking for stuff and whatnot. It was great because in all the thousands of hours I've played Oblivion since it came out (2005? 2006?) I've never done the Hackdirt quest.

I've also never finished the main quest, never done the Fighter's Guild, only ever done the first two quests of the Thieves guild, got half way through the Mage's Guild, and I've never explored like... 50% of the map, all around the north, south, east and west edges. It's probably the middle 50% of the map I've ever explored.

Got tons of this game still left to explore :D

add some visual mods, textures, flora ( i recommend sweet fx with cartoon effect, it works great in oblivion )
add combat enhancing mods
add fixes
a few new weapons
and sprint so it doesnt feel so outdated

After some time adjusting it all I was able to start enjoying the game like I did years ago, 50 h in already and its still great. Instead of focusing on how old the game is ask yourself what do you need to enjoy it again and then add it. Its better than skyrim, for me at least

Some of the NPCs look like parts of their faces are falling off, as if they're becoming ghouls.

But at least the quests work. And there's a giant couch you can jump up and down on while yelling, "I love Katie Holmes!"

Man, who cares? It's like 12 years old. Nobody is playing this for cutting edge graphical fidelity. They're either playing it because they're nostalgic for it (like me) or they're curious about the early TES games before Skyrim.

At least the Khajit's and Argonians in Oblivion don't walk around like they pooped their pants like they do in Morrowind.

You are not only one. Everybody get bored something. Everyone change. It is very normal.
I think you got grown up to play TES4.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. I played this game on my Xbox for hours at a time. Now i can hardly play it for an hour without getting bored. This is why i bought the game on steam so i can mod the hell out of it and make it almost like a brand new game. This is also happening to me with other games as well.
Ravi Jun 12, 2017 @ 8:15pm
Yeah, I used to live in this game. Had it on disc since I was seven years old. Thousands upon thousands of hours in this game, modded and not modded. A registry error has kept my steam game from ever starting up anymore, but I miss it every day.

This was my first Elder scrolls game and regardless of the graphics i will always love it.
