Short blades
I'm using a short blade as my main weapon. My character does plenty damage with daggers, even lousy ones like chitin. However, I figured I would use the best short blade money could buy which currently is a silver short sword. But with that sword it takes forever to kill even a mudcrab. Is something wrong with short swords, or with silver weapons, or with that particular item?

Is the Silver Short Blade fully repaired? I don't see why it would do less damage than a Chitin dagger unless you are fighting tougher enemies with better armor. I didn't see any issues listed with that particular weapon on uesp.net.

Maybe the guy sold me the sword in very poor condition. That might be it, because quite soon it was broken (condition 0), and I was wondering why.

I'm just starting my first playthrough, but I also bought a silver shortsword and noticed it was already in about half its condition... guess those merchants really did throw sand in our eyes, eh, mate?

And Daedra, they have immunity to normal weapons in this game, some of the 6th house creatures may be immune as well.

The silver shortsword is near broken if you are buying the one in the shop in Seyda Neen, think of it as a lesson in the importance of armorers, I usually ignore that weapon as the assassins come with silver daggers.

haha they sold you them in worse condition but it was cheaper, so if you're good at repairing and have some hammers and tongs with you just repair the dagger and you would have a good conditioned dagger for cheaper.

I like the bound dagger a lot. Especially now that I have a mod that lets magicka slowly regenerate.

Bound weapons are the way to go for mages, they are better than any real weapon and you get a +10 skill in the weapon. However, it's a good idea to always carry a real weapon for backup, in case your character is cornered without magic left. Very useful too are those weapons like the devil spear that "transform" into a bound daedric weapon, and these can be used by anyone even if not a mage.

There are alot of real weapons that are rare and hard to find that are a million times better then bound weapons lol but yea bound weapons are good for mages starting out.
