Finally downloaded the Morrowind Code Patch...

...only to discover that it wants to be installed in the same folder as Morrowind. I tried to do so, only to find that the patch replaced the game in my Steam directory. I've redownloaded the game, but I still face the problem of how to get the patch and the game to run simultaneously. Can someone help?

Not sure what you mean. Are you talking about when you run the MorrowindCodePatch.exe? It backs up and replaces your Morrowind.exe. That's how it patches the game, so there's no way around that.

Not the .exe--the whole contents of the folder. It wasn't supposed to do that, was it?

What should be contained in the install folder:

Data Files (contains Morrowind Code Patch Showcase.esp only)
mcpatch (folder, contains scripts, etc)
MCP History.txt
MCP Readme.txt
Morrowind Code Patch.exe

No idea why that happened. No problems with the install from Fliggerty here.
Unless Windows UAC is interferring or your anti-virus is, I have no idea.

That is where I got it from; and I think it does contain all those things you listed. My problem is where to install it in order to be able to run the patch and the game without rendering either one ineffective. In other words, which folder should I install the patch into?

It has to be installed to the Morrowind folder in order to work. As I said, it replaces your Morrowind.exe (and backs it up as Morrowind.Original).

Why the game won't run after you apply it? No idea.

Come to think of it, Windows did warn me it would replace the folder contents if I put it in the Morrowind folder... This is weird. Know of anywhere else I can look for help?

There will be an overwrite, when it adds the Data Files folder. This folder already contains Data Files, do you want to overwrite? That's normal...
