The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

To Tamriel Rebuilt, or not to Tamriel Rebuilt
I'm in the process of modding Morrowind (on and off for a year now) for a playthrough. Tamriel Rebuilt is a mod that I have installed, adored but uninstalled after a while for a long time now. I like seeing the mainland wrapped around Morrowind, I want to play it's content, it's even installed now, but I have some caveats.

The main one is-- It's incomplete in a really "in your face" way. Ever since TR Preview is deprecated, the landmass suddenly cutting off and the gap where Mournhold should be breaks the illusion for me. I got the latest TR Preview working and loaded it before TR Mainland (thinking it would overwrite) but it broke some places instead (I started seeing... double). So I unchecked it, but that's the least of my worries.

I want TR on par with what I have done to Vvardenfel. Visuals are no problem, but sound is. Town Sounds and Acoustic Overhaul don't work in TR cells. Gameplay mods are another worry of mine. I have Price Balance and it has a TR addon, but I don't think there's a version that supports the latest update. And like I said, it's incomplete. Future updates can break things.

Once again, I'm torn about keeping it. Right now my mindset is "I have other mods that use TR Data, so why not use the landmass anyway". I don't want TR to be a decor that wraps around Vvardenfel but I can't find mods for OpenMW (even Vanilla) that brings it on par with mainland. Is it worth the hassle, and if it is, are there any mods you recommend for TR? (especially sound, lighting and gameplay, for OpenMW)

Thanks in advance.

There was an update near the end of December so might want to check that out.

The last version of Preview was from 2023, so wouldn't recommend including that at all. There are instructions for setting up the Section files for yourself if you like. You might have to adapt those instructions, given that the page itself is outdated, but you should be able to follow it. Use at own risk. https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/48228

There's the official soundtrack, but I don't recall many mods (outside of some minigames) specific to TR. Wouldn't expect too much there given that it's still incomplete.
Suggest looking through the "Mods requiring this file" dropdown option under Requirements on its Nexus pages. If it doesn't say it requires MWSE, then it'll work with OpenMW.

Yea as Ghost said there has been an update, I don't let the map cutting off bother me too much, I get the immersion situation but I just make it my business to not go near the edges. The depth of the mainland locations, the big cities in particular more than refill my immersion cup, I absolutely love it, as they have given all the commoners unique dialogue, which is something REALLY missing from classic Vvardenfell, and I enjoy talking to everyone in a city that way.

In short, I would strongly suggest adding it.

I have the same view as you. Sound mods dont work with it, the cutoff is immersion breaking - exactly why I dont use pc or shotn yet, not until they connect with the rest of the world lol

HOWEVER, as I've seen and heard from many others, Tamriel Rebuilt, due to so much years of work and progress has in my opinion better quests, and a more engaging world, than vvardenfell. It is so gigantic and a huge update is coming soon for grasping fortune.

With just vvardenfell, it feels isolated to me, like I'm stuck on an island. Tamriel rebuilt makes me feel like I'm actually in a large province -- with a high (x99.0) view distance, I can see mountains from afar and seemingly endless hills, all with high-quality content worked on for years.

IMO even though I'm huge on having everything connect and work out, tamriel rebuilt and project tamriel as a whole once it all connects is a must-have. Not compatible with a lot of immersion mods, but, there's so much freedom.

I would recommend pairing tamriel rebuilt with Waters of Morrowind -- made with TR in mind and makes the sea much more interesting, underwater dungeons, treasures, ships. Just so everything really feels like it has history, including the waters.

If you don't like Morrowind vanilla style don't do TR
I'd say still try Tamriel Rebuilt I think It is a amazing mod and it is still not finished yet but there is still a lot of content in it currently but I think it is an amazing mod with lots of new content to morrowind and I think you should try it.

Caring that TR just cuts off into the void when you reach the edges of the finished areas is very much missing the forest for the trees. The mod, at current, provides dozens of hours of incredibly high quality content. Unless you get very lost, or actively try to walk to the edge of the playable space, you will never see the landmass just 'end'.

In terms of gameplay and content, there isn't anything that comes close to TR. If you value your sound mods more than gameplay content, you might want to just buy a nice pair of headphones and give up on video games.

Strange. I suddenly have the urge to turn every tree in Tamriel Rebuilt into Thomas the Tank engine. I searched before making this post and saw some of your responses to other people thinking "This is the guy/gal who can contribute the most". Imagine my disappointment when I read your "contribution" that makes you come across like a purist gatekeeper. If you have anything useful to say, I'm all ears. If not, sad, but who cares.

Again, there is saying "the quality of Tamriel Rebuilt far outweighs the lack of mods for it" and then there's this. Maybe theo above made me a little over-touchy but why comment about me? You know nothing about me.

As for the others:
@Ghost
Thank you for you help. I already have the latest version. I just got the lastest TR_Preview running with it. I ended up deleting every common cell in TR_Mainland+the files in your link and TR_Preview. It seems to work now. I won't go to those places unless they are officially released, considering there is no content anyway, but it will provide nice decor.
@Boutous
Yeah, I toured the mainland to see if the TR_preview problem was solved all the time thinking "This is what the main game should be like". The size and the design of the settlements are phenomenal.
@Myuwo
I don't believe OpenMW supports real time traveling mods that would benefit most from WoM but it really looks cool, thanks. I have it installed for now.
@Morgan Fun Gamer
Yeah, I'm keeping it.

Question asked and answered. Once again, thank y'all.

Have fun -- Each distinct area of TR is like it's own experience with loads of content worthy of its own playthrough.
Is it better to go to the mainland before or after the main quest?

The main quest is irrelevant to Tamriel Rebuilt. You should do its faction quests before reaching the max rank though, or you'll miss out. There's a plugin called TR_Factions to help with that.

Would suggest doing it (the main quest) first before going to Mournhold and starting the Tribunal expansion with the exception of stopping the Dark Brotherhood attacks.

Been awhile since I played TR - but I remember thinking some of those faction quest lines were better than the vanilla game. Some of them had long arcs and branching story lines and stuff. Very professional and high quality, iirc.
