Weapon damage type
Do weapons have a damage type? (blunt, pierce, slash)

Or are daggers, arrows and maces equally good against skeletons for example.

Weapons do indeed have three different damage ratings. Chop, Slash, and Thrust. Each Weapon is better at one form of attack. Ranged weapons have only one damage type. To my limited knowledge no creature is weaker to one form or another unless there is a mod that does that. Is there a mod? That would be cool. I will look into it
NO There is not.

No, no blunt/pierce/slash etc damage type. Only time you will need special weapon type is special weapons for killing undead and daedra. Any weapon of Silver quality and higher (Dwemer, Elven, Orcish, Ebony, Daedric etc) will suffice to meet that requirement. Or a low quality material weapon that is enchanted to do magical damage will do as well.

As already mentioned, there's chop, swing, thrust damages. But you mostly just need to concern yourself with clicking those swings, as long as you have the option of "Most Powerful Swings Automatically" ON. Manually decide between chop/swing/thrust is not at all a good idea, as there's no enemy being weaker to one of the sort of weapon attacks than the other.

Guess no reason the get a mace for undead then, bummer.

There is a point to using a weaker attack, for example chop or slash with a spear, as you will level up the skill much faster.

Yes and NO. If you want to play as a mace weilding undead killing SOB, you go for it. Don't allow Number crunching of which weapon does more, swing faster, etc. to get in the way. Personal preferrence should override any of the numbers.Happy hunting

And don't worry too much about lack of effectiveness, the power in this game comes more from attributes and skills than from the items you choose to use.
