Application load error 5:0000065434

I installed Morrowind, then modded it with just the latest version of the Script Extender and the Morrowind Graphics and Sound Overhaul Mod. Nothing else, but when I run Morrowind either through the ScriptExtender or the Executable (both standard and launcher), I get the error Application load error 5:0000065434 which appears to be a steam error. I disabled teh steam overlay but nothing, anyone encountered this same problem?

basically, if you install Morrowind on a seperate drive, then by default it'll install it in a SteamApp folder. Sript Extender has a problem with this in that it expects that SteamApp folder to be in Steam folder, so essentially wherver you installed your steam application.

e.g. Steam/SteamApps/common/Morrowind. Make sure that the SteamApps is within a folder called Steam that has the steam client installed"

"There is the odd case that this happens with Steam, it isn't a problem with your game but with Steam itself. The best thing you can do is to reinstall it. If you don't wish to download Skyrim again, you'll have to go to its directory in the Steam folder and move it to a safe location while you do the installation. You can then place it back in after.

If you do it this way... Next time you start Steam, go to Library > Right click Skyrim > Properties > Local Files > Click verify integrity of game cache... Once its complete, try the game again."

Idont know if it works but good luck also run all as administrator. apparently its odd but fairly common for all games

I've had it a few times already, Morrowind + Graphics Overhaul 3.0. I still don't know how to sort it. Yesterday I signed up for the Steam beta and after that was downloaded I could fire up Morrowind again. That can have been coincidence but you could give that a try - Steam > Settings > Beta Participation. The thing didn't want to download easily, I have to say.

Anybody know how to sort this? It keeps coming back, it's no fun having to do a complete reinstall every time you just want to play the game...

I wish I could help, but I genuinly don't know. Haven't tried the validation check yet since I was busy, but will do it again from scratch

Hum same problem here, after install can't launch the game...
I installed in a separted folder...

ok, i've tried to "validate check" and it redownloaded a 30mb piece of data and it worked. I'm going to reinstall it as you say to see if it change something.

I know this is late, but for people who might be experiencing the same issue now: don't use the morrowind launcher or morrowind .exe on you desktop or installation folder. Launch it from within Steam. That's what I did and it worked :). Hope it helps some of you guys too

Also joining the late to the thread party, but I felt the need to add that it can apparently happen to fresh installs, validated cache, and without any mods at all. That's what I've got and I still get the Steam error.

EDIT: this is still after running it in compatibility mode (WinXPSP2 because I have Win 7) and using the mklink command prompt fix for non-standard directory issues.

I havent tested much BUT at first glance it seems to work.

And i then went to the Game Copy World .com and searched for morrowind.

I copied the content (2 files, 1 MW.exe) into the morrowind directory (remember backup).

Now i can launch without problems (so far).

Just noticed, that the morrowind code patch modifies the .exe file itself, and therefor this only works without morrowind code patch...

But better than nothing i guess... :-/ (Stupid Steam error...)

Lol... yes indeed, @Arrowyne solution to restart Steam indeed fixed the problem, when launching the game from Steam with a game installed on a separate drive.

1 - Restart Steam.
2 - Launch game from Steam only.

Mods seem to work so far.
