The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

YOU are Immortal
I was playing Oblivion when I heard an NPC talking. The NPC said, quote,
"I heard that the Nerevarine sailed off on an expedition to Akavir. He hasn't been heard from since!"

Let's go back through the sentence.

"I heard that the Nerevarine sailed off on an expedition to Akavir. He hasn't been heard from since!"

And the Nerevarine is the player. So either I understood this correctly, and you're immortal, or I misunderstood, and Oblivion takes place soon after Morrowind. Either way, it's interesting. Even if you aren't immortal, you see frackin' AKAVIR.

Is there any evidence to support my inference of immortality?
In MORROWIND, specifically.

He's unique in that he is able to survive the Divine Disease, but is still able to gain the benifits of the disease and immortality is one of the suspected benifits. The game never confirms whether or not the Nevarine is actually immortal because of this. Depending on the race you chose, particularily the elves, he could still naturally be alive. One of the elven Morrowind character even appears in Skyrim.

Ah. Elves can live to what-- 2,000 years max? Or is it 4,000?

I don't think the game ever points it out exactly but Divaryth Fyr in Morrowind is supposed to be like 4000 years old. I think Oblivion takes place not long after Morrowind anway, even a human nerevar could be alive.

Thanks for clearing that up.

I remember reading in her biography about the different stages of a dunmer life cycle, she's now in her matriarchal stage and also infertile, while dunmer live for a few thousand years there it is suggested that they eventually die of old age.

And I think Divaryth Fyr prolonged his life via magic, like most of the other upper echelons of the telvanni house.

Morrowind is in 3E 407 and Oblivion 3E 433, so evrey caracter might survive.

If you think on Therana, thats right. She is gone crazy and everybody will tell you that magic prolong her life.
The Dunmer can get really long, as you see, one Telvanni even life in Skyrim, about 420 years after Morrowind and he was an old man in Morrowind, too.

Dunmers are not immortal. They just have a very long lifespan (a couple of centuries maybe). Divayth Fyr is 4000 years old indeed, but that's not because of his race but because he is an extremely powerful wizard, even capable of travel to Oblivion at will.

In any case, whatever Nerevarine's race is he can live indefinitely. According to the Second trial of the Seven Visions „Neither blight nor age can harm him. The Curse-of-Flesh before him flies.“

And yes, the Oblivion crisis took place about 5 years after the fall of Dagoth-Ur.

That clears a lot up. Thanks.

Playing Skyrim my character met the Nereverine. Anyone else see and speak to him at the foot of the statue of Azura? Skyrim was supposed to be long after Morrowind.

Did you have a certian mod installed? It could be an easter egg, though... (Twice, I encountered the headless horseman, once on PS3, and once while playing the 'Wyrmstooth' mod. Both at night in an outdoors worldspace.) Still, that's cool.

Also, Skyrim's events take place 205 years after Morrowind's.

Altmer live the longest, then Dunmer, then Bosmer. Orsimer lives the same life span as men races. Altmer can live for like 2000 years. Divaryth Fyr is an exception because he's a very powerful wizard so I'm sure he has his ways of preserving himself.

Do the beast races have around the same life span as men, or no?
