What is the reason for disposing of corpses?
Other than automatically looting it and reducing your save file size by not having it around, I can't think of a reason for it. Is there an advantage to doing this?

Totally right. The more bodies laying around, the more things the game has to "remember" (although bodies disappear after three days in-game time). Not disposing of corpses can lead to crashes and slowdowns. The same is true for leaving random stuff just laying around. The game has to remember exactly where all of that stuff is. Closing doors behind you also helps give the game less things to "remember".

Another reason is to make body piles easier to search through. The generous hitboxes on some of the enemies can be troublesome.

It's so there aren't hundreds and thousands of dead Cliff Racers littering the landscape.

I figured it was more for the roleplaying aspect of it...

Thanks everyone. I'm sure my 2013 laptop can handle it but it never hurts to minimize potential crashes when you can.

I think the role-playing aspect is that you have to dispose of the corpses of all the people and creatures you killed or else you'll hear their screams every time you try to sleep. Well, that's how I role-play it.

If you dispose of a daedra corpse in a "cell" then exit and enter the "cell" again the daedra respawns so you can farm them :D
Sometimes you don't want corpses littering your home, ya know?

I think if you're creative enough, you can figure out a way to role-play most any aspect of the game's mechanics. I read something somewhere years ago (real specific, I know) that someone thought the in-game gold didn't add to your carrying weight because it was infused with the gas that allowed netches to float. If you give it much though, it doesn't make much sense, but it's still a cool thought.

Roleplay as a cannibal...

Well, in Oblivion I murdered an entire family and took residence in their home. Unfortunately, I could not dispose of their corpses... but I could in Morrowind!

probably has more to do with gameplay. since the game has no physics applied to inanimate objects bodies tend to overlap each other which makes looting a ♥♥♥♥♥. if u killed 20 baddies in one spot then u couldnt loot them without disposing of their bodies

That is actually how I farm or collect soul gems: I enter ancient tombs, kill the bonewhatever that has a soul gem inside, dispose the corpse, leave the place and enter again
