The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

NVidia Card Not Detected
I have an onboard Intel4000 and an NVIDIA GT670 card on my rig but Morrowind only detects the Intel and gives me crapppy graphics options. I've also tried setting the games profile to run with Nvidia as default processor from NVIDIA control panel - but that didnt help either. Skyrim has no such issues. Basically, Morrowind only seems to be honoring the onboard card and not the Nvidia!!

Any tips?

Incredibly, I was just looking at a possible solution for this yesterday and I happen to be subscribed to this thread, so you might be in luck!

Nope when using the nvidia control panel to try to solve it it doen't work.
And that's really bothering me as it's the only game with this problem !
All the others switch to the right GPU when using the nvidia control panel but this one just seems like it doen't care what I'm telling it to do !!

First thing that comes to my mind: Are you sure you selected GPU for the right file? It should be "morrowind.exe", not the launcher.

Have you tried opening the options game settings on the menu before hitting 'Play' and selecting your gfx card manually?

You can't select your GPU from within the game. It has to be done from the NCP (or AMD equivalent). That's true for all games, not just Morrowind.

yea before the game starts you get the splash screen with various options including the 'play' option to start the game, but also on that screen is one of the options called 'options' which opens another menu where you can select your graphics card and resolution. thats what i was referring to :) sry if i worded that a bit odd

I think it's me who couldn't explain. I understand what you referred to, but such selections are overruled by OS in every game, including Morrowind. If you select nVidia card from there, the game will continue to use Intel APU regardless.
Deactivate the Intel GPU in your BIOS.

My old laptop had an Intel HD chip and a moblie Nvidia. If I selected Nvidia on the NCP but I selected Intel on the launcher then it would run off the Intel chip. I had to select Nvidia on both the control panel and the launcher or else it would launch using Intel HD. Normally you'd be right, but I've personally witnessed it not working like that on Morrowind.

Can't be done on laptops. and doing it in other ways won't help niether, because the laptop is using optimus, so the good gpu is connected through the intel, so turning off the intel ♥♥♥♥♥ some ♥♥♥♥ up, and games won't even launch because there isn't ANY gpus recognized.

I used to have this issue, I found a fix that no one has mentioned yet, so if you like you can try it. If it works for you, please reply, because I would like to know how well it works for other people.

Go to https://openmw.org/downloads/ and download the openMW engine. This is a community made open source engine for morrowind that is designed to optimize morrowind for newer devices, including Macs and Linux devices.
Nvidia's optimus protocol forces morrowind to run off the integrated graphics because it is too old to be recognized as a game, but openMW can be set to run off the dedicated card.
This is what I did and after I combined it with the Overhaul, I have an upgraded morrowind that looks amazing and works off my dedicated card.
Hope this helps.

Yup that'll do it, it fixed the problem for me in the end.
