Mixture of Difficulty and Progression
Just a simple question here. What point do you guys set your difficulty slider to? And what build have you found to take you through the game with just the right amount of challenge while maintaining a steady rate of progression?

I leave it at the default value. That's what the game experience was balanced around. (The difficulty slider was only added later with a patch) And considering the so called difficulty levels are just a lame damage multiplier, there's not much point to changing it imo.

As for the class/build, I think something akin to a spellsword is ideal. The struggle between the fighter half and the caster half of the character will keep a good challenge while providing a wider selection of options for your actions. The fighter side will keep the gear progression relevant, while the caster side will give you extended options and a good money sink.

I use the default difficulty on ALL games. Sometimes when I'm new and still feeling my way around, I'll up the difficulty, but normally it's the default.

Since very little scales to your level in this game, there really is no balance to achieve: If you want more of a challenge, go hit up the daedra shrines or head inside the ghostgate. If you're finding it too hard, head back to town and do chores for your house. And once everything gets too easy, head over to Solstheim or Mournhold for some minor adjustments to your position in the power hierarchy.

I played the game in the past, and I knew where glass armor was, and I knew where to steal and make money, so I power leveled the plus 5 times 3 every level...and I was a dumner with fire resistance...so I moved difficulty to 82. human npcs cannot hurt me really, but if I get attacked by a dremora lord and another daedra unprepared, I will end up either dying or using 10 potions. so the game feels "real"...like I am a bad ass action hero but certain situations are still life and death. Jackie chan takes on 12 people at a time, but one supervillian can almost kill him :)

Defaut. The first time I played I got killed by a rat and set it to the lowest.
(It didn't help I was such a noob.)

I don't think it would make much difference anyway.
