The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind sold over four million copies worldwide by 2005. By the end of 2002, it had sold almost 95,000 units in Europe, and by September of that year, that number had risen to 200,000. According to a Reddit post, Oblivion, the next main title in the series, sold around 3.5 million copies by the time Skyrim released.
I never said anything about original sales numbers. As of 2015 though, Oblivion had sold 9.5 million copies. According to Playtracker, a total of 3.6 million Steam users own Morrowind, while a total of 5.6 million own Oblivion.
And given that Oblivion is available on more platforms, and is generally easier for newcomers to get into than Morrowind, I highly doubt Morrowind has sold more.
It's possible though, the latest sales number we have of Morrowind is from 2005.
It will be the standard just like McDonald's manufactured souless burgers. But if modders can access such a tool, oh boy, just wait. We are doing wonder voicing companions with AI for Skyrim, it's only the beginning!
Well that's how the oblivion remaster is.
AI basically did all of the work and some skeleton crew worked on the remaster in their spare time on the weekends. They didn't even bother correcting the AI spelling mistakes on signs when it upscaled them.
There's also a bunch of out of place AI voice acting added to the remaster.
So we're basically already there, they used AI to do all the work and some janitor in his spare time touched up the game a bit before releasing it. Give it a couple years and the AI will be able to do it all and that's all we're gonna see flooding the gaming market.
