But you should be able to fight him. You just gotta kill him in the first room then after that he reappears in the heart chamber. You'll just miss out on all the dialog.
That sounds like mods or something. there is no fake keening and Sunder, or any dialog related to that. There's only one sunder and keening and there's never a twist about fake ones.
Cut content - can still find the fakes in the game's files. Apparently at least one of the fake Sunders can be found in Russian copies of the game, but I can't confirm that.
Yes unless OP uses mods it's totally OpenMW
OpenMW is an engine replacement. It doesn't add any new content into the game; no fake items, no new dialogue.
The "unprepared" dialogue is standard response you get when not having all 3 tools.
OpenMW only had to somehow duplicate Keening and maybe not recognize dialogue conditions properly (also very possible that conditions require exactly 1 Keening, I'll check it later).
OpenMW has a history of its own new bugs already so it's the main suspect
Unprepared dialogue if actually unprepared is normal, sure. Not the other stuff. They shouldn't have 2 Keenings. They shouldn't have fake Sunders. They shouldn't be seeing dialogue about Sunder being fake.
So assuming they're not playing a version of the game created by a third party, they're either using mods or have been cheating (or both) and have borked their game.
OpenMW doesn't touch the content, just the engine. None of what they're saying is engine related.
Anyway OP should confirm if he does or doesn't have mods
Theo knows many things about the vanilla engine and the game itself, but only has prejudicial nonsense to spew when it comes to OpenMW. By his own admission he hasn't used it in years and he doesn't know anything about the latest state of OpenMW. While what he says is technically true, OpenMW does have its own bugs, they are nothing game breaking and mostly minor things. It's best to ignore his comments about it. I don't know where this hatred boner comes from, but he has been objectively proven wrong before (by other purists I might add). Just like I will prove him wrong now:
* On my heavily modded OpenMW, without the necessary items, Dagoth Ur says "Why have you come unprepared".
* With the necessary items Dagoth Ur says "Welcome Moon and Star, I have prepared a place for you" when you enter the facility and goes on with correct taunts. Finally, when you enter his cavern he says "Welcome Moon and Star, to this place where destiny is made."
That eliminates OpenMW as the possible culprit. These forums would be swimming with similar threads if this was caused by OpenMW, since it is really popular and the game has been beatable with OpenMW since 2016. I don't know what causes it, but at least I helped by eliminating one of the suspects.
Once again, your wishful thinking got the better of you Theo. Let go of the hate dude. It leads to the dark side, I heard.
It's possible to glitch the engine to duplicate items in the base game. They'd still have to actively do that. Not sure if it works in OpenMW, as I haven't tried to do it.
There's no way to acquire a fake Sunder in the base game outside of spawning one in via console. It does not exist in the world, no-one gives it to you, and there's no script adding it to your inventory.
Likewise there is no dialogue in the game that tells you that Sunder is fake.
It's not a matter of not being able to trigger it, and it somehow getting triggered, it does not exist.
You won't replicate the issue by talking to Dagoth Ur in your game if it's not in the dialogue itself, but caused by wrong and duplicated items. How they were messed up is a puzzle, but IF OP has no mods, OpenMW is the only possible cause
I never said I talked to Dagoth Ur. I just triggered normal in-game behavior. Item duplication is not a thing in OpenMW. As of now I put just as many hours to it as vanilla, never happened. And like I said, it's heavily modded and some of those mods, like Wares can easily ♥♥♥♥ up item lists. And here is the best part: Item duplication is not the cause of the issue. OpenMW still behaves normally under the circumstances OP describes: Wraithguard, Sunder and two Keenings. I just tried that too. Something broke the script, but it's not OpenMW.
Please explain to me, why do we get a single thread about this when OpenMW is widely used, YouTubers post let's plays/longplays, finish and review the game using OpenMW without any problems? (Yes, I am aware the number of people playing it vanilla is exponentially higher, but OpenMW is common enough to call it "widely used".) And no, OpenMW is not the only possible cause. There can be other explanations, like console commands, dirty saves (as in uninstalled mods).
Just let it go dude. Respect people's choices and don't try to defame hard work of modders. I really respect your knowledge about the game itself and the vanilla engine, I just don't want you to die on this hill. Again.
