There is a good story, probably the best in the entire series. It's a slow burn though, it's not a sequence of action packed dungeon crawls or anything like that. It's very lore based and you spend a lot of time in the main quest doing research and investigating. There are also a crapton of side quests for factions and others, and most of these quests are short fetchit quests to earn you reputation with the quest givers.
I would not call it "challenging gameplay". Combat is fairly simple, the game even handles the shield use for you. Internally it's complex, but in terms of gameplay it's simple. At low levels the combat is very tough, at high levels it's so easy it's an annoyance. Magic is much more complicated, and you can make your own spells and combine effects. Potion effects stack, etc.
I consider the scenery impressive. That's the vanilla graphics. Some people overhaul the graphics, but to me that just destroys the feel.
Anyway, guess I'll get morrowind either way, it's not like it won't be worth the 5 bucks.
