The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

First time playing Morrowind
So, it's funny. I actually started playing the Elder Scrolls games with the first two - Arena and Daggerfall, way back in the 90's. Didn't know what the hell I was doing, didn't think to talk to villagers to figure out where to go or what I was supposed to be doing - so I just broke into random people's houses and killed guards for loot. It was fun, but I didn't really "get it".

When Morrowind came out, I was in a weird point of my life - my PC was ♥♥♥♥, couldn't play most things, and instead of an XBOX, I had a Gamecube (mainly for Resident Evil 4). By the time Oblivion came out, I had a much better PC, so I bought it and played the everloving ♥♥♥♥ out of it. Then, when Skyrim came out, I again played the everloving ♥♥♥♥ out of *that* one.

And now, I'm playing Morrowind for the first time. Yes, I modded a couple of things (I just can't deal with that leveling scheme, but mostly, it was just patches and fixes for widescreen). And I have to say that I love it. It's not perfect, but neither is Oblivion or Skyrim. To be fair, I love all the Elder Scrolls games (yes, even ESO, but I'm a sucker for MMOs that are more horizontal than vertical). And Morrowind is a different beast entirely from its peers. It's deep. It's janky. It's atmospheric. It's immersive. It's frustrating. It's beautiful.

I'm not going to say it's better than Oblivion and Skyrim (though, almost assuredly, better than Daggerfall and Arena - they're next on my list to go back and re-experience). I'm going to say it's a wonderful experience, and it's own unique entry into the gaming world. They don't make them like they used to, for better or worse.

That being said, please excuse me. I have a prophecy to fulfill.

I hope you're using OpenMW and patch for purists, those are pretty much essential. OpenMW more so than anything else as it is a lot more stable, I've been playing OpenMW for half a decade and i've not crashed once, even with a modpack totalling over 500 mods

So, no on the OpenMW, but yes on the Patch for Purists. I'm not really running many mods at all, and haven't really had many issues. I've had a very small handful of crashes, which, thanks to my frequent saving, hasn't really been that bad. I was expecting a fair amount of jank. Maybe in a few years when I want to come back to it, I'll switch over to OpenMW and do some more mods.

Good to hear, MWSE and base morrowind crash usually, though OpenMW doesn't, pretty much at all. But yeah good to hear you're having a good time and man, you can replay Morrowind for 100s of hours and never see everything. I recommend Tamriel Rebuilt, project cyrodili and skyrim home of the nords
