The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Could Someone Help Me with Modding?
I'm a moron. Let's get that out of the way right now. Everyone reading this post is more adept at modding than I am, guaranteed. But, at least now I think I do know what I want.

Here's what I'm looking at A/O now:
1)MGE XE
2)MCP
3)MOP
4)Patch for Purists
5)Texture pack????

That should be most of what I want. I do NOT want to change the game, add new content to the game, add new features to the game, etc. A pure purist. I just want to play Morrowind again.

However, when I last played, I used the MGSO, and that was a one time self installer (thus, a moron like me could even handle it) but it says on there now not to use that. I was going to anyway since I am a moron and was scared to try anything else, but all of the warnings about bugs and breaking the game scared me, so here I am. There are two "game changes" that I do most definitely want and I don't know how to get those now that MSGO is no good.

1)Nekid bodies. There really is only one reason why I liked this, and that is just because every time I came across that dude looking for the witch that took his axe just literally CRACKS ME Up every time. I mean I end up busting out laughing out loud, especially when every time you speak to him he would say something like (been a long time so probably not exactly right) "It's a bit chilly out, isn't it?" LOL, "Yeah you moron (one moron speaking to another) it is a bit chilly WHEN YOU'RE NEKID" lol

2)This one is MOST IMPORTANT. Actually a "game breaker" for me, not that it breaks the game (since you know it came this way vanilla) but I just don't want to play it like that. And that is the way the plants were done where you could pick a plant, come back to it, and not tell if you had picked it yet and try again. And the MGSO did it perfectly. It changed the way the plant looked, yet it kept the chance that the plant was "empty", which I liked since it seemed to be the intent of the developers to do it that way. But going in and checking every plant every time I venture out because I can't remember if I already checked it is not a fun game experience. So that I most definitely want.

So, my question is two fold. 1) How can I get that laugh out loud moment again (axe dude is nekid) and get the much more player friendly plant picking feature. 2)The harder part, how do I install them. I read each one listed above, and I _think_ I can handle it, but if there are any suggestions on order or something please tell me because I am a moron and have no clue.

Thank you. I apologize for being a moron, but hey, it took me nearly 7 decades to get this dumb so I guess you could say I've accomplished something. And I have lots of Steam points that I have no clue as to what to do with them so would gladly give anyone who tries to help the max (4800 I think IIRC???)

Thanks again,

OldFatGuy

Do you know if the order they're listed in that little box that opens when you click on Data Files from the Morrowind Launcher is relevant? I was focused on that yet it may mean nothing, I dunno.

The order they appear in the launcher doesn't seem to matter, it's not actually the load order.

Thank you. For everything. I just think I'm done man. Long, long night and I'm sure I'm not going to figure this stuff out. Have a good one.

Well, I think you were right about MOP not depending on load order because I tried again. So far I've done these steps:

1)Clean install - Ran game. Works Fine
2)Install Morrowind Code Pathc - Ran Game - Works, MCP 2.4 shows in lower left corner.
3)Install MGE XE - Ran Game - Looks great, all changes made there appear good.
4)Install Patch for Purists - Ran Game - works fine.
5)Install Morrowind Optimization Patch - Ran Game - Works fine.

So, it was NEITHER Patch for Purists nor MOP.

So it must be that Unofficial Morrowind Official Plug-Ins Patched. I dunno. I'm gonna install that next and if this is what causes the problem I guess I will forget that and just use the vanilla Official Plug-ins and live with whatever bus the UMOPP fixed.

Here goes lol *crosses fingers*

It was the real signposts. Who'd a thunk??? This time I did one thing at a time, starting the game after each and every change. And it was the real signposts that caused the problem.

Here's what I ended up doing.

Morrowind Code Patch
MGE XE
PfP
MOP
UMOPP
Expansion Delay
MET
Better Bodies
Graphics Herbalism (the one from your link, it was better)
Better Dialogue Font

AND IT WORKED!!!! And it looks GREAT, and boy... FAST too. This is way faster than the last time I played it. I mean everything loads so fast I almost jump because I remember how it was last time I played. And wow, it looks good. Actually better than it did (at least I think so... memory sucks though).

Now all I have to do is get my controller to work with it and I'm playing Morrowind. I still have my old Logitech Profile from years ago, so it shouldn't be a problem, just load that Morrowind profile into the Logitech Profiler Software, and I'm playing Morrowind again with my controller again.

EDIT: I should have mentioned that I don't even play the Steam version. I bought it thinking the workshop thing would make things easier... only to discover that Morrowind doesn't have workshop. lol I played originally from my boxed set, then at some point bought the GOG version, and that's what I've played ever since. But the forums at GOG are dead and that's why I posted here. Sorry if that was inappropriate.

Hah! Every daggone time I play Skyrim this happens to me. I get into it for awhile, but then my mind keeps saying... Morrowind... Morrowind... Morrowind... and before you know it I'm playing Morrowind instead of Skyrim. Not sure that's the reaction Bethesda wanted from Skyrim, but it sure is my reaction. For some reason playing Skryim just gets my desire going to play Morrowind again. lol

Dude, I can't thank you enough. You were kind, patient, and very helpful. Rest assured all the problems I was having were on me because, well, I'm a moron!!! lol

yeah - real signposts needs the .esp file to be modified in a hex editor to change the size of the Morrowind.esm file that's stored in it - basically because it's so old that it predates the last change to that file

basically this is the issue and the fix (using the Tribunal esm as another file that relies on the Morrowind esm and stores its size):
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3195948271
(note my comment on the screenshot cites it being related to the Steam version, but the fix works on the GOG version too - so i assume it was that the esm got patched when Tribunal was released - and the mod predates that)

you can probably use the construction set to fix it - and i am sure there are other ways - but if you are able to edit files using a hex editor this way works

anyway - good luck and enjoy the game - MGE-XE and enhanced textures is the key to making this game timeless - since the gameplay is still just as good as ever - it just needs a lick of paint, some upscaling and some draw distance :-)

No worries, happy to help.

As for signposts, if you still want to change them there are a few options that should work without having to mess with a hex editor.

For English signs would suggest one of these two.

Signposts Replacer for Tamriel Rebuilt and Vvardenfell: https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/55496
(Just JASPR-V if you're not playing with Tamriel Rebuilt)

I use OpenMW because modding Vanilla Morrowind is a pain in the ass. Frankly.

OpenMW is literally just drag and drop then press a button on the launcher.

If you get annoyed with dealing with Vanilla there's always OpenMW as an option to consider.
