The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Do you consider Magicka regen mods cheating?
So browsing Nexus, I came across some Magicka regen mods. Now I don't use them, in fear of it may make using magic too easy. Do you guys consider them unfair/cheating? Curious how the other fans feel. Thanks for your input :)

Well, the best thing about mods is that they customize the game to the player. If you don't feel like it is cheating, it really isn't cheating. For me, I don't place my game on very high levels of difficulty, so I would find using a magicka regen mod would make things too easy. Those playing at a higher level might not feel the same way.

Appreciate the quick response! Yeah I feel the same way. I play on normal, so using those mods might be...well really easy for me. I also tend to play battlemages, and managing my magicka can be quite fun at times. Resting in the field is typically what I do :)

I have never been able to get the hang of playing a strict magic user. The closest I got was making a lot of use of conjured weapons. I love weapons, I guess!

I love battlemages, and in this game they rock. Conjured weapons are amazing, too.

I don't want to consider it cheating, as eventually we have Magicka Regen in the rest of the TES series anyways, however it does give you a huge advantage in Morrowind considering the game was designed around the player relying on having a finite Magicka pool during combat.

That being said, it's possible to legitimately get Magicka Regen in game, but it's extremely expensive and likely something you can't do till you're pretty far along, and that is to manage enchanting gear with Regen spells.

You can't really cheat in a single player game. You have to find your balance of fun and actually have fun in your single player experience.

Magicka Regen mods come in various flavours, the more populars use up to 15 real time minutes to regenerate your magicka, so it's not like Skyrim anyway.

Lorewise, magicka comes from Oblivion spirits that shift through you all the time. Magicka is not something that only belongs to your brain or soul, it's something you "drain" from oblivion. So it makes perfecltly sense to regenerate magicka all the time.

In some other games they say magicka (or mana) is something that has to do with your concentration, so sleeping is the way to regenerate it (you reset your mind). In TES magicka depends on otherwordly things that don't differ if you are sleeping or not.

Looking only at game mechanics: if you use a mod that regenerates magicka in 1 minute you are becoming overpowered, and probably will bore out fast due to lack of challenge.

If you use a mod that uses 15 minutes or more to regenerate your magicka, you can't spam spells anyway. You just don't need to rest every time you want to cast a spell.

In my opinion sleeping 4 hours in a monster filled dungeon to cast a spell is more annoying, less immersive and less realistic than getting a slow magicka regen.

I would consider "unlimited magicka" as a cheat. Regenerating magicka is more like convenience. At the time Morrowind came out there was an unwritten rule that said "playing as mage should be harder". In Neverwinter Nights, you could only cast one spell for level if you chose to be a mage for instance. Morrorwind continued the tradition by making magicka regeneration exclusive to resting.

^This is spot on. If magicka regen will be more convenient for you and make the game more fun, go for it. IpaladinI is right too, in that it's possible to do it in the game anyway.

Ultimately: your game, your rules. You can always change things again if you feel like there's no challenge or it's becoming boring - that's why mods are so good!

IT'S CLEARLY A CHEAT YOU NOOB!!

lol, just kidding. Mods are there to make the game the way you want it to be. If you want magicka regen, go ahead. And don't let anybody tell you otherwise ;)

Lovin' the feedback, guys. I agree with all of you.

I dont think it is a cheat. I mean, theres magicka regen in the other games. I only use magicka, so its pretty useful for me.

If you get a mod that regenerates magic very slowly, its not boring at all. I play battlemage and while I do have a regenerating magic mod, I still rely on magic potions and frequent resting. Its really just for if you cast a small spell like a simple healing spell and you don't want to wait too long or use a potion.

Yes, but it's a single-player game so who cares? Just do whatever makes it enjoyable for you.
