Tips for travel.
As everyone knows; you move slowly in Morrowind, especially during the early game. This can turn a lot of people off but it shouldn't.

There are those who will tell you to take Speed as one of your two primary attributes to overcome this slowness but that's a trap unless you're intending to play as a rogue-ish character who uses Shortblades all the time as Shortblades are governed by Speed.

There are others who will tell you to take The Steed birthsign for its +25pts boost to Speed but that's also a bad idea for the same reason as selecting Speed as one of your primary attributes unless, of course, you are using Shortblades. There are other birthsigns which are more useful overall and confer better attribute boosts to make your character infinitely more playable (The Lady, The Lover, The Apprentice for mages, etc.)

My advice would be to make good use of Mark/Recall spells and potions which are pretty cheap and can save you lots of time. After you take a quest, use Mark at the location you received the quest, the location you will be returning to for completion. When ready to head back simply use Recall and you will be teleported to your Mark. Simple enough.

Another way to do this is via amulets of Divine/Almsivi Intervention. There are spells for these as well but amulets are great for warrior/mele characters with low mana, especially during the early game. The amulets frequently drop as loot and are cheap, as are the spells.

Divine Intervention teleports you to the nearest Imperial Cult shrine which are located in a few major cities and most forts which are conveniently located in or near cities.

Almsivi Intervention is my preferred method, it will teleport you to the nearest Tribunal temple. These temples are located in major cities and those cities usually have a Mage's Guildhall with teleporters, a stiltstrider dock, or both. After using the amulet simply head over to the Mage's Guildhall or stiltstrider dock and travel onward to your destination.

Detailed information about the amulets and spells can be found at the Wiki:

*** There is another method only useful for my mage brothers and sisters and that is to make yourself a nice Levitate:100pts:60sec:Self spell. The number of points = how fast you move while levitating. Of course the aforementioned spell will be both extremely expensive to craft and even more expensive to cast so experiment with the strength and duration that works best for you at whichever level your character is currently. Levitation in Morrowind is a game breaker which is why they removed it from Oblivion and Skyrim, it's too easy to dominate when you're the only character that can fly but for travel purposes it comes in quite handy. Not only can you avoid swimming but you can fly over mountains, reach hard to get at nooks and crannies and in combat you can levitate and strafe away whilst raining down damage spells -- you take no mele damage unless you want to. :)

Excellent post. There's yet another way of getting a strong levitate that's worthy of a mention, and that's to leave a Rising Force potion (not one you've made yourself) at the shrine outside the High Fane in Vivec. Even the extremely low-quality potions work, and the shrine will grant 100pts of levitation for a whole 24 MINUTES. You can then add any additional levitation spells/potions you have to boost floating speed even further.

That's a good idea! :cybereye:

Does it only work during and after completion of "The Pilgrimage of The Seven Graces" quest or can you always take advantage of it?
Even if you've not started that quest you can use it :) It'll give you the journal entry for the pilgrimage anyway though, so if you want to go ahead and complete the rest of the Seven Graces afterwards it'll still count towards that, even if you've not tried to join the Temple at the time.
