In short - worth a punt for either curiosity's sake or if you genuinely dislike the MW engine and MGSO. If not, hang on for Skywind.
The game mechanics are the ones of the game that gives the engine: Morroblivion will have Oblivion game mechanics and Skywind will have Skyrim game mechanics.
As far as i know, at least for Morroblivion, the only mechanics that will be the same are that all the enemies will be unleveled, so you shouldn't be assaulted by bandits in daedric, but you could be badly beaten if you go in the wrong area too soon (as it happens in Morrowind). Skywind when completed should be the same.
So basically, if we take Skywind as an example, you will have:
Morrowind world with Skyrim graphics.
Morrowind NPCs with voice acting.
Morrowind quests, main, factions and secondary.
Skyrim UI (unsure if they want to get rid of compass and map markers).
Skyrim Character sheet (basically no stats, 18 skills with perks)
Skyrim combat mechanics (always hit, no math, block with right mouse)
Skyrim magic system (so no mysticism, or spells like levitation, unless they implement them)
Other Skyrim mechanics (walk/run/sprint speed, no athletics or acrobatics)
Skyrim Alchemy/Smithing/Enchanting system.
Unleveled enemies in Morrowind style.
Basically you get the story with gorgeous modern graphics and actio oriented combat system.
I'm waiting Skywind badly for the visuals, but i also think that Mowwind somewhat difficult and clunky mechanics are part of the experience. So basically my suggestion is: first go with morrowind with the graphic overhaul, feel the pain but live the full experience at least for a while, and after go Skywind to be blasted by the graphics, but already knowing how was the deal will multiply the fun.
I would love to play this game on the Skywind engine but I don’t know if I want to wait till it’s complete so I might give Morroblivion a go because I think it would defiantly be an improvement over Morrowind.
These are my own views and opinions and I certainly understand that many others don’t share those with me. Morrowind just doesn’t do it for me but I love Oblivion and Skyrim.
Morroblivion should be ready, i think only the 2 dlcs bloodmoon and tribunal are not imported.
To my tastes morroblivion is a contradiction in terms, since oblivion is the only game in the series i didn't like, expecially for its mechanics.
BTW, looking at Skywind vids and Morroblivion vids to me it seems they look the same than morrowind with graphic overhaul 3. At least regarding landscape. OFC npc and their animations will be better in Skywind, but probably if you are not liking Morrowind you will not like its conversions in modern engines too.
