Should i explore everything as i go, or just follow quests?
I am going back and forth across my map, just going where the quests tell me. I was wondering if it's wrong to play like this? Should i explore the map gradually as i go?

i do what you do but when i played skyrim i did the 2nd option i don't think it matters i'm just worried i will mess up other quests by clearing a cave without the associated quest

I follow the quests, and then explore along the way. Best of both worlds.

As for messing up quests, it's really hard to do that. Just keep any unique or unusual items you might stumble across, and avoid killing anyone who doesn't attack you first.

In one of my playthroughs, I followed the quests up to a certain point (I came to the Ashlanders quests), then I abandoned the main quests. I raided caves and ruins, slaying vampires and freeing slaves. I took up some side quests too. Play as you like, but know that in Morrowind, exploration is rewarding. In one of my raids, I found a powerful ring after killing a vampire. I was low-level at the time, and that ring saved my life in more than one occasion (I don't remember what it does though).

Exploring is really recommended. There are plenty of powerfull items that are not quest rewards, you just find them in the caves or ruins. The more you explore the more intersting, and rewarding the game gets.

Take note when killing hostile NPC's though, a lot of bandits in shrines, caves and ruins are actually trainers. Sometimes even the only master trainer of the skill in the world.

As for following quests, take it easy, don't push yourself, only few quests are time limited, most can be done no matter how long you wait, so there is no need to push yourself into something too hard for you.

Generally i explore when there is something i feel is interesting during a quest. Sometimes it is too difficult so i end up having to leave before i finish the area.

Just look around on occasion, don't always do the main quest, try looking around in the guilds, they have some unique quests you can do and there is some exploring within those guild quests.
