Hey

So I basically have another noob question, I'm a loot hoar, and was wondering if you can get your own house with a storage chest, orcabinet in the early stages of the game.

One interesting thing to know, is that you can drop your treasures on the ground/table/bench and it will never disappear or get stolen. So you can establish your base of operation pretty much anywhere without losing your stuff.

When you advance in the ranks of any of the 3 great houses, you will have to build yourself a mansion to live.
If you have bloodmoon expansion you can help building a town, when it's finished, you will get to build your own home here too.

You can also use any of the homes, or abodes on the map as your playerhome.
On my current character i use Hlormaren as my home. Items placed on the ground or tables etc. will never disappear.
With containers, well you should proceed with caution, but so far all I checked were safe containers.

Here's a decent mod that adds a house to Balmora if you need something early game.

No, as far as I know, you gotta join a house, get promoted and they'll give you a place to live that you'll be able to upgrade. That takes very long so you won't find anything early on. You asked for vanilla, so that's it, but I do have another option for you: Home mods. Those are your best option. Just drag and drop one you like into your loadorder and enjoy.

You can get a House early on as I have, let me tell ya how i did. After starting a new game i did a few quest where you start then I went to Balmora and did a few quests for Caius Cosades then joined the Fighters guild and did a few quests for Eydis Fire-Eye, the last quest was to assisinate Dura gra-Bol at his house straight acros the south bridge on the east side of Balmora. I turned in the mission and assumed occupancy of his house.

Ive been using his house for at least the past few in-game days. I have put many items in it so far as ive been cleaning out the dewmer ruins at Arkngthand and using some of the stuff to decorate a little.

Not very big but there are 4 floors. There is plenty of storage upstairs with 2 boxes, a cloth sack, 3 baskets, 2 wooden barrels, and one barrel. the middle 2 floors are just landing's with a door the goes to the upper and main patio areas outside and the 1st floor or main living area has a storage shelf with lot of useless stuff on it and with a small dinning table and chairs, a bed with a small table next to it and a Chest (lock lvl 45).

So far no one has kicked me out or raided the house so i think this is feesable, I heard you could kill anyone and take over their house too but the way i accuired it via the mission from fighters guild was a better option I think because i dont want to kill a random person for their house and later find out that he is needed for a mission.

The main problem is that the storage is probably marked as owned by Dura gra-Bol. So everything you store there will be tagged as property of Dura gra-Bol and considered stolen goods once you take it out.

Well i havent noticed any adverse effects from doing this. Can you explain how i can tell if what you mention is actually happening?

I have tons if items in there now, Ive also cleaned out some runins nearby and stored the stuff there before i sold them

Easiest way: Open the console, type TFH, press Enter. Now look at your items and the containers you use. You will see the name of the owner, according to the game.

There's a locked house in Balmora that you can unlock with a scroll as soon as you get to town. Inside is a dead guy. There's a quest associated with the dead guy; and most importantly, the dead guy is a fantastic storage device. He's permanent if you don't dispose of him, so don't worry about him rotting away. There's also a number of crates and sacks to store stuff in.

The house is on the west side of town, upper level, more or less across from the Hlaalu council building. Makes a good home.

that is interesting most quest related dead things don't let you dispose of corpse, but I will have to look into that house just for the quest

Interesting... Well ive gotten rid of most of the owners (Dura Gra-bol) in the past now with TFH on all the items i brought in the house doesnt say they are owned by anyone except a few things i did steal from and stored there and a few other items that did belong to Dura Gra-bols, but dothing is being taged as his when i store it there.

Im just waiting for one of those assassins to attack me again after i go to sleep so i can use the corpse as an infinite storage vessle as i hear we can do. But otherwise this seems to be the fastest non problematic way to obtain a home on morrowind if you think about it. You just need to complete a few quest then you get the quest to kill Dura Gra-bol, you kill him turn in your quest and start living in his house lol.

I wonder, is there a console command where i can (officially) change the owner of the house to me? Or even add or remove furniture from the house?

External tools can clear the ownership off an item, but I think only a mod could do that for the house. As for furniture, you can remove it by opening the console, clicking on the unwanted furniture, typing disable, press enter. For adding more, I would recommend getting a furniture mod.

Than

the answer to your question is murder
or theft either one really

i live in the light house and also have one of those locked up houses near the river in balmora :)

If you join a guild you can use the guild HQ. I'm in the Mages guild and keep everything in their dormitory at Balmora. I like piling books I've collected on the floor there! There's also a wardrobe in that you can unlock and store your stuff in. You can also rest for free on the beds.

But seriously, if you really want your own little cosy house, just get a mod.

Actually something is wierd, I am noticing some items which are owned by Dura Gra-bol, but they shouldnt. Furthermore, I have been looking in some of the boxes stacked around town outside and some of the boxes have respawned items that say they belong to Dura Gra-bol, infact all the items in those boxes say they belong to Dura Gra-bol, now that is wierd

Little info that might be useful: Due to engine limitations, the game tracks stolen goods on a per-type basis. So stealing a lesser soul gem from Galbedir will mark ALL lesser soul gem as stolen from Galbedir. In your case, you probably "gave" Dura Gra-Bol an item of those types and then stole them back, marking them all in the process regardless of their future locations. And yes, that limitation makes things really weird.
