The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Morrowind GOTY on Windows XP will not play
I've bought it and installed it from the store, and the installation was (apparently) successful. But when I click play on Morrowind and it pulls up a menu. My options are

>Play
>Data Files
>Options
>Elderscrolls.com
>Technical Support
>Uninstall
>Exit

I click play, then a black window pulls up and I get a small window that says "Morrowind has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost. Please tell microsoft about this problem. we have created an error report that you can send to us. We will treat this report as confidential and anonymous. To see what data this error report contains, click here.

I have tried for several hours to get it to work, and it won't. I would like to have some help with this.

Try running it in administrator, and going into the Options section and running it in a window.

Did you install it in the default location, ie in the directory? If so try reinstalling it in a diferent location such as c:\users\your name. Windows UAC can be difficult with changes to directory files. I have Windows 7 HP and have Morrowind installed in c:\users\bill and it runs fine.

I tried windowed and fullscreen mode. My account also has administrator priviledges. And I also sent it to my documents instead of program files.

UPDATE: I looked through the files through Steamapps and found another Morrowind installer. I clicked that and a window pulled up that looked like a traditional installer from the original game, but it asked me for a CD that I don't have.

UPDATE 2: I tried installing Morrowind on my other two computers, one 40GB HP XP and one 40GB Vista besides my main 40GB Dell XP. They installed and played perfectly but one of them has a cracked screen so I have an external monitor hooked up to it to see with. The monitor recently got a permanent blue tint because of a faulty hard wire going through the monitor. The other computer is my dormant 40GB Vista, I have a USB keyboard hooked to it because of a smoothie spill on the keys two years ago, but Morrowind works for both of these computers, just not my main one (yet)

TL;DR = Morrowind works on 2/3 of my computers.
