Loot, goot factions, tips on questlines.

joining the fighter's guild and the redoran house would be the obvious choices

Here are a few tips.

Join Telvanni and do the quests. When you get to the Slave Rebellion quest kill everyone so you receive the Ring of Toxic Cloud.

Head to Mournhold and save your game. Talk to Gaenor. Don't give him anything and he will become upset. Come back later and he will be wearing full Ebony Armor and have a very potent Amulet enchanted with +15 Luck. He will attack you on sight so be careful and don;t forget to save your game! Use the Ring of Toxic Cloud on him and you can kill him in 1-2 uses. He can reflect the spell back on you so be prepared to reload your save if you die.

When he is dead you will have full ebony armor and the amulet.

Alternatively while waiting for Gaenor to return with his armor, or if you want to wait to fight Gaenor later on since he is quite a challenge without the ring, look for a High Ordinator guard in Her Hands armor and use the ring on them. They are level 60, but you can kill them at level 1 using the ring. It takes 2 charges to kill them and they can also reflect the spell back on you, so reload your save if necessary. The guards in Plaza Brindisi Dorom have enchanted armor, but killing them may affect the main quest.

Her Hands armor and the guards weapons are very expensive and the armor is very good. You can sell it to the mudcrab merchant as a get rich quick scheme. You have to do this before joining the Tribunal Temple or you will get kicked out.

Later on in the Telvanni questline you can receive an enchanted Daedric Cuirass and Greaves with the feather effect to lighten the weight of the armor.

Raise your Agility early on to increase your weapon accuracy.

Level Spear when you can. Spear is a very useful defensive weapon and can help you raise your endurance stat at level up.

Obtain the Boots of Blinding Speed and RIng of Phynaster asap so you can move around more quickly. Do not use the boots of Blinding speed while in combat or you will miss alot.

Go to Ilunibi to find the Fists of Randagulf asap. They are enchanted with 20 strength and 20 agilty which will increase your damage, max encumberance, and improve your accuracy and evasion. It is best to get them before level 3 because there are less enemies inside, but is still doable past that level. You may need the boots of Blinding speed and possibly some form of levitate. The boots of the Apostle in Berandas can be very useful for that.

That quest was so epic. That orc; his speech was so meaningful.

I know, it was so good that Bethesda put a few "old orcs" in Skyrim that want the same thing... Sadly their loot is crap :P
