How do I bring someones disposition up?
I'm getting a little frustrated. My problem is that I'm trying to do the quest for the Mage guild where I have to convince the Argonian not to practice magic. However, early on I tried to taunt him but failed because my speechcraft was too low and now his disposition is sitting at rock bottom and I can't seem to bring it up to even talk to him.

Unfortunately I chose speechcraft as a miscellaneous and for the past while I've just been buying training from some woman in a village by the coast and I've brought it up to 57 but that's still not enough and now she is no longer able to teach me any more. I don't have the patience to randomly practice it on people as it is painstakingly slow even to increase 1 level.

I've also bought a charm spell (10 points) but even after I cast it I always fail trying to admire and it drops to zero again. I've also cast an increase personality spell (5 pts I think) before I try but it still fails.

Any help or ideas would be very helpful. Is there another trainer somewhere that will continue to train higher levels of speechcraft?

I'm level 11
Illusion: 30 (minor skill) which Charm falls under
Personality: 69
Speechcraft: 57 (misc.)

If his Disposition is really stuck at the bottom bribing him with a few 1000 Gold is often the only way to raise it. Kill him later and loot the corpse to get the money back.

However simple solution would be to cast a frenzy spell on him to make him attack you, kill him and the finish the quest this way.

I use a mod that allows you to apologize to a NPC in order to rise their disposition up to 35. http://mw.modhistory.com/download-53-8804 (updated link)

Use a spell like voice of the emperor or bribe him, if you are in need of a little gold fast open the ingame console with ` key (tilde) and type Player->addtitem gold_001 100000 which will give you 100000 gold coins, to lower that amount change the number on the end of the code. ori if u dont want to use cheats then use a spell or bug musk which can be found in ANY televanni town in the apocatheries or as random loot in caves but be prepped to fight for it if you want to liberate it from caves btw
Telvanni Bug Musk. Fortifies Personality 40 for 60 secs....

I`ve heard that once their Dispo is at 0, the (mostly) only way to get them back up is to bribe them with some rounds of 1000 gold. But well, others had already told you most of other ways, so I will not lose my words over these, except maybe a small suggestion to go away from them for a month (in-game) and then check them back after it had passed. Dispo progress would be visible, especially if you trained Speechcraft and increased Personality during that time. I had noticed that by accident on Gnisis`s Temple Ordinator, which I always bribe with 100 gold as a thanks, RP-vise (since my character is afraid of them x3) because after some time, his Dispo dropped back at 40 (previously it was 63) and I had to bribe him again (which would my character do anyway, LOL, at least until it reaches 100~).
As for Speechcraft Trainers, Caius Cosades in Balmora can (apparently) teach you the skill all the way to 70, so it`s wise to visit him more often that just for main quest procedure (only beware, he will leave after a certain part of the Main Quest is done). And if you managed to find Vivec`s Library, it houses Speechcraft skill book, I think it`s one of Vivec`s Sermons.
Good luck!

PS: One warning, never lower an Ordinator`s disposition to 0, they might spontaneously attack you, especially if you`re doing the Main Quest!!

Thanks for all the advice. I'm still working on it when I find time to play. I found someone in Caldera that can train higher speechcraft and Caius is good to know too.

This is actually one of the reasons why I enjoy Morrowind over Skyrim. The game is hard and unforgiving but the feeling of reward when you conquer it is also way higher.

Adding, if you manage to do "Larrius Varro Tells a Little Story" quest without any bounty on your head, you apparently get another Speechcraft skill book as a reward, titled Biography of the Wolf Queen. Don`t rely on that one tough because I hadn`t even taken this quest XD
