Uninstall morrowind via the usual method.
Go back to your morrowind directory (assuming it still exists) and delete everything that remains. If there is no morrowind folder skip this step.
Reinstall morrowind.
Replace your saves folder.
Run the game to the main menu once (dont load your save or start a new game)
Reinstall mods if desired.
Also, turn off Steam Cloud sync?
So once reinstalled, just copy the saves into the new Morrowind save folder?
Do you know if the stuff I uploaded into Google Drive would be okay to stick in, if I'd needed to revert for any reason?
Main reason I'm doing this is that I'd read that the MGSO needs a clean install. Is that true?
I'm currently running the MGE XE with a few extra things but wanted to try out the MGSO.
Thanks again man
Edit: When you say "take out save folder" do you mean just copy it?
Also, can you just disable the overhaul to go back to MGE XE and other stuff if you desire?
Uninstall through steam for steam games is best just right click morrowind in your library and select delete local content. I find that the windows uninstaller in the controll panel leaves alot of stuff behind and third party uninstallers dont agree with steam for some reason.
Yes Disable cloud sync (Personally i never use it) since you mentione dthis make sure your save files are actually in the save folder.
Yes just move the save files back to the save folder.
The purpose of a clean install is to eliminate the posibility of corrupted mod files or incorrect mod installs. Re-using thoes files would completey revert back to the way things were. Keep them if you want to but i wouldent. It might be ok but it depends on the state of the mods you uploaded and how they interact/conflict whit whatever you install this time.
Again though, any time i have a problem with Morrowind mods unless the solution isnt immedately ovious (and it rarely ever is) I just clean reinstall everything.
Yes its true if your going to use MGSO it needs to be installed first. Also you have to use the version of MGE EX it comes with. If you try to use your own updated version it breaks the distant land generation wizzard.
Since your installing MGSO ill go ahead and include the steps for that as well
Clean install morrowind
Run the game to the main menue once.
Disable steam overlay.
Disable UAC (Requires restart and is included in one of the early steps of the mod installer.)
Run the installer and read every step completely (so you dont overlook the step that tells you to disable UAC)
When it comes to the the distant land pre configuration I strongly suggest disabling Depth of field.
If you use bows when you draw back an arrow the game focuses on the crosshairs (which is on the bow at this point) and everything else shifts out of focus.
After that run the game and make sure it works on a new game.
Install any additional mods if needed though make sure nothing conflicts.
Move your old saves back in and resume playing. If there were any mods you used to have but no longer have youl get a few poppups while loading saying that there are missing plugins. You can safely ignore them any items that were in mods you no longer have will simply disappear from the game harmlessly, and the errors will stop the next time you save.
I knew about the UAC and mod error messages etc.
One thing...
When I ran MGE XE I spent hours trying to sort out my lack of some files in the June_2010 redis of DX09. The problem was I had DX11 and the MGE only supports DX09 and related files. Are the relevant .dll files already in the MGSO data? (I'm on Windows 8.1) or should I copy the .'ll files and dump in the *newly installed* Morrowind folder, prior to MGSO setup?
(check me out, been Modding like 4 days and kinda sound like I know a tiny bit lol)
The MGSO installer checks to see if you have a working Legacy DX9 installed on your stetem. I dont think it has the installer bundled into it but it shoudl tell you where to go to get it installed.
Though to be honest ive never not had DX9 installed on my system (must come bundled with a driver or something i have) so i dont know any of that for certain beyond the fact that the MGSO installer does check for DX9
You should get DX9 installed before fully installing the mod, however just start with the installer and let it check for DX9 itself before doing anything because it will probably tell you exactly what to do to fix it.
You also wont install Dx9 into your morrowind folder that will go elsewhere in a system folder somewhere Basicly whatever default location it prompts you to install it to.
Quick question, your Direct X 9 problems. Im not entirely sure waht they are (havent really paid that much attention sorry :D)
What is it exactly saying?
I then placed the .dll files in with Morrowind, so yeah, guess I'll keep them handy.
I know I never put them there manually. SO i guess as long as they are there it should be fine.
Theoretically all it takes to disable a mod is to disable the .esp in your data files menu. Uninstalling is a different matter. For that you have to delete each indavidual file the mod adds something i strongly suggest you dont do as many mods use the same or similar asset files and they are almost never labled which file is for what mod.
MGSO also isnt just one mod, its the code patch, 4gb exe patch, MGE XE (v 9. something), a couple different mesh, texture, and grass packs, a gathering mod some skyboxes and I think a new weather engine to boot but dont quote me on that.
Basicly its a LOT of files and a bunch of .esp plugin files which is why i alwayse say when delling with MGSO trouble, if the solution isnt immediately ovious, just clean reinstall everything. Youl save yourself alot more headache and time that way.
The Code patch is bundled in with the MGSO installer. It will run once you reach the step to run it.
Everything about MGSO is setup to happen automaticly or in sequence. Once the last step on the installer finishes, your done. Nothing else to do other than play the game or find more mods.
I will say this though and this applies to anyone who wants to mod morrowind.
Stay away from mods that add items with constant effect summon creature enchants. Even with the code patch they strain the game beyond its limits.
If you do want such a mod. Make frequent backup saves, and make sure that none of the summons get left behind. I belive it has something to do with summons despawning in unloaded cells.
Edit: Nadlug, thank you for all your help and input.
The mod does tank your framerate though, IN busy exterior cells i usualy average 20-30.
A Mesh actually and that is prefectly normal the current version of MGSO has a buggered furn_de_Table_03.nif file.
Eaisest way to fix it is go into Morrowind/Data Files/Meshes/F and delete Furn_DE_Table_03.nif
Hm. So you don't advise House Fliggerty? It also came up with 14 warnings on distant land about "failing to parse static"... Doesn't seem to have done anything though.
