How do I force the game to use my dedicated graphics card?
Hi!

I'm trying to run Morrowind on my laptop (if that matters). When I go into the options menu, in the launcher, there is only the choice to use my integrated intel graphics card, even though I have a gt840M in this computer. Is there a way to force the game to use my dedicated graphics card?

type nvidia into your search to find the program "Nvidia Control Panel."

Under manage 3d settings, it might take a second to load (or you might have to click the add button), but look for "Elder Scrolls 3: Morrowind" in the first dropdown box under program settings.

Box 2 says "Select the Preffered graphics processor for this program," click the dropdown and select the graphics card you want to use. For my laptop the two options are "High-performance NVIDIA processor" and "Integrated Graphics"

I have try this. in nvidia control panel already set using dedicated gpu but when I open in explorer the default gpu still the integrated GPU not the dedicated GPU

I used to have this issue, I found a fix that no one has mentioned yet, so if you like you can try it. If it works for please reply, because I would like to know how well it works for other people.

Go to https://openmw.org/downloads/ and download the openMW engine. This is a community made open source engine for morrowind that is designed to optimize morrowind for newer devices, including Macs and Linux devices.
Nvidia's optimus protocol forces morrowind to run off the integrated graphics because it is too old to be recognized as a game, but openMW can be set to run off the dedicated card.
This is what I did and after I combined it with the Overhaul, I have an upgraded morrowind that looks amazing and works off my dedicated card.
Hope this helps.

I have exactly the same issue, may I know how you combined openMW with MGSO? Should I install MGSO first before openMW? Thanks in advance for your fix!

I applied MGSO 3 to the vanilla installation. But MGSO does not use the newest version of the code patch, so I had to use the older code patch in MGSO and then run the new code patch after I was finished. *Important, finish installation of MGSO before using the new code patch* Then run OpenMW and find the morrowind.esm file when it prompts you. Then you have to use nVidia control panel to switch preferred graphics processor to your built in card on the OpenMW only, not the morrowind application. Then run the OpenMW application to play the game. If you try to launch from steam, it will not work. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info, but I tied your method and most of the MGSO not loaded, like the water shader and view distance is the same as the vanilla game, I was looking to play this game in my laptop but it's really disappointing it does not work.
