Distant Land Setup Issues. MGSO v3.0
Hey guys! I'm a complete newbie when it comes to modding Morrowind and I'm having some serious trouble, which has not been resolved through browsing several threads online. I'm sure several of you have had successful installations of MGSO 3.0.

On with the problem. I have used the installer which I downloaded off of nexus and installed everything perfectly right up to the Morrowind Graphics Extender. Once I get past the step where I have to choose my screenshot folder the installer completely stops during the Distant Land Setup Wizard. Since the installation is automated it takes control of my mouse movement so I'm not able to move my mouse, which is to be expected, but that is not the problem. It does not move on to the next step. It stops right after it selects all of the plugins. This is the first problem. So I ctrl+alt+delete so I can do it manually and click continue.

**At about half way through the Creating World Textures installation I get the error:** A fatal error has occurred creating the landscape textures. Distant Land Setup cannot continue. D3DERR_DEVICELOST: Device lost (-2005530520)
This leads to a cancellation of the current step in the MGSO installer.
I tried to start the game just to see if it would work without this step and it crashes during the loading of a new game, as I figured it would. Any input would be nice. I would REALLY love to play this mod.

**Here are my specs (it's a dual card gaming laptop which can be a pain)**
PC Specs : Alienware M17
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4710MQ CPU @ 2.50GHz, 2501 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Video Cards: AMD Radeon HD 8970M / Intel HD Graphics 4600
16GB of RAM
I'd imagine I would be able to run this mod on ultra high.

Did some digging, try this solution.

I was able to fix this problem. Cancel out of set up and return through the process to the final step again. Select your resolution and screenshot folder as normal. When the auto-installer brings up the “Distant Land Set Up Wizard,” use CTRL-ALT-DEL to get back your mouse. Select “Use Current Load” and then “Continue.” Second menu will appear, and select “AUTO SET UP EVERYTHING.” The installer should then complete with no issues. When I went back through , the auto-installer moved forward and caused the error again while I was making notes for this reply. Make sure you are paying attention and hit the AUTO SET UP EVERYTHING option quickly. Hope this helps.

If that dosent work try these troubleshooting steps to see where you are at in terms of things attempted. (apologies if youve done all this allready)

1.Are you running the installer as administrater (not just looged into an admin account)
2. DId you disable the steam overlay as the mod suggests.
3. Did you run the unmodded game once to make sure everything with the base game is working properly?
4. Make sure there isnt anything unusual about the folder you select for your screenshots (since it freezes after that step access rights might be pitching a fit caushing the problem)
5. Are you sure it is freezing? how long are you waiting? I remeber some steps taking a fiar amount of time to complete, Distant land generation being one of them.

Due to the nature of the MGSO installer you might also want to try disabling any virtual input software that may be conflicting with the installers scripts.

On a side note, Triple cringe. Alienware, Laptop and Hyperthreading.

Thanks a ton! I figured it out somehow during those steps. Yeah the laptop was a graduation gift from my Grandpa haha. It is a serious bastard to run somethings.

Ill bet. Alienware is like Nike, you pay for the branding not the actual product. and an I7 downclocked to 2.5 quad core is painfull enough but yours is furtehr downclocked to 1.25 for the 8 logical cores, Hyperthreading is baad juju. Only good if you do alot of multitasking, for a gamign rig its its all wasted.

Apart from that I really dont know why laptop manufacturers do the whole Dedicated/Intergrated dual graphics chip setup. In my expierence the intergrated chip alwayse conflicts with the dedicated one in some way causing an unreasonable butload of problems.

Glad you got it as a gift though, least you didnt spend the money on it. Also glad you got the mod pack running, its really picky at times when it wants to work for some people

If you are having the exact same issue try steps 1-5 i suggested 3 months ago.

If not elaborate whats happening when you try to install.

No joke you have to press auto setup quick lol I had to get it the second time by predicting where the button would be. Thank you for the fix.

I had this problem (D3DERR_DEVICELOST) and was able to fix it by unplugging my non active USB plugins. Took out my phone charger and headphones and it worked.

I was able to do the following:

Ctrl alt del to get keyboard back once it came up
Click use load order and continue
Let it fail
Go back and run the wizard again, then you can do the same thing but have more time to click that auto button
