The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

What is OpenMW?
I have only used MGSO.
I would like some hella graphical tweaks for fun.

It is the definitive way to play Morrowind.

I downloaded it and it didn't really add any new graphical enhancements. So what exactly does it do?

"OpenMW is a free, open source, and modern engine which re-implements and extends the 2002 Gamebryo engine for the open-world role-playing game The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Like the Construction Set for the original Morrowind engine, OpenMW comes with its own editor, called OpenMW-CS, which allows the user to edit or create their own mods or original games. Both OpenMW and OpenMW-CS are written from scratch, and aren’t made to support any third party programs that have been added to the original Morrowind engine to improve its functionality.

OpenMW is not a “mod” to Morrowind. It is an entirely different game engine that does not use the original Morrowind.exe in any way."

By itself it does not add any thing new--try using a graphics enhancement mod for OpenMW like vtastek's shaders (available only on Discord so far) or the mod 'For What It's Worth' available on the Nexus. They both add normal maps and specullar effects, vtastek's specular is PBR and FWIW uses color-Specular maps with parallax normals. Both look great but vtastek's is currently set up for OpenMW 0.46 and needs updated to 0.47. FWIW is compatible with 0.46 and later (they added color-spec capability in 0.46). Vtastek's is PBR using linear light ike the MGE XE PBR prototype while FWIW uses per pixel lighting and parallax normals. Maybe too much info here but I think you are giving up on OpenMW without really trying it out with proper graphics mods.

PersonallyI prefer using an upto date MGE XE with MCP and Patch for Purists, then maybe some texture mods:

also highly recommend Scum Retexture, small texture mod for ponds around the Bitter Ghost.
OpenMW has just released 0.47, I would prefer to see if it has any bugs first before trying. Version .46 did have over 100 that needed fixing.

This guy above is right. Please dont use MGSO. I use mcp, mge xe, unofficial patch and enhanced textures pack and its great and bug free basically. Mgso is crap!

There is a graphical modlist and where to get them at the end of the video and in the description.

The cool thing about OpenMW is mostly that it's open source, which means anyone can develop for it and improve on it. I believe it does fix a few things but I can't remember if that's true or what they are.

However, for users there's lots of cool stuff. First is that you're able to link to your mods directory instead of copying files directly into the Morrowind game folder. This allows you to easily add or delete mods without have to search for a bunch of files / make backups.

There are also forks of the project that add multiplayer support, and (as the last comment mentions) VR support.

Hope this helps.
