Doesn't mean they are the same version.
Steam and GOG are going to have the absolute latest/last official patch Bethesda made, and if any were released after the GOTY box then he'd need to hunt that down.
However Steam and GoG may include their own fixes and additions. GoG GotY for example includes TES CS, all official minor addons, and some fixes Steam version doesn't.

can send you one of my spares lol. usually around 30 bucks from the retailers, if you were dying to compare.
iirc there was no copy encryption on the old disc, so you should be able to just scan it in .iso format and mount it via virtual cd from win10. if it wont figure out the format try .bin or virtual clonedrive.
and you can do a direct compare.
i'd be curious to see what features were available and what weren't. i only had goty for console (regrettably lol)
