well being week minded I have not done that quest in any past games in recent play through's so think I will just throw the darn thing into the pond
now i know the location of the ring i dont need it anymore though so it has been a while since i used it.
Edit:
the uesp has a picture which makes it a bit easier to find the ring.

the next time I play I will try to find the ring. I do not understand the directions and the plants to locate the ring but it doesn't matter I killed the invisible character already so I will just move on

some errors in morrowind dont show their face when they are first generated, instead they pile on and corrupt saves hours and hours later.
also, i dont really see the point of using console commands instead of just doing the quests themselves. it kind of defeats the purpose of the game.
the only 2 reasons why i ever use console commands are:
1. fixing game breaking stuff which prevents me from continuing
2. testing mods
that being said, i appreciate that you are just tying to be helpful, so i thank you for that, and i gave your original comment about the journal entree a reward.
as always, have a nice day :)
