A GOOD reputation???
After many years of playing this game I finally found that my reputation is only 4:steamhappy: and I am most likely doing all the wrong things to have it so low. If it isn't to late what can I do to raise it?

Just increase ranks in the guilds or do the main quest will make it go up the most.

There's also a guide on the wiki if your looking to raise your rep. Might be an option.

The simplest way is to do the quests. Each quest in the game has a Reputation score tied to it, and doing the quest adds that score to your current Reputation. Reputation only goes up; at least, the general Reputation always goes up. Faction Reputation can change depending on who you're talking to at the moment; members of an opposing faction won't like you all that much.

As the others said, do the guild and house quests. They won't all give you reputation but there are a lot of them, typically 1 point each. Make sure you always click on advancement.

Alternatively, continue the main quest. While they start at 1, key points will give you more, e.g. 5 for Moon and Star, 4 for each Hortator etc. for a total of 42.

That said, your general reputation doesn't really matter all that much.

thanks. As a side issue I gather that as quests are solved they are removed from the list of quests. I have quests that are still there even after I get credit for finishing it. I gather that this is related to quests that are related to quests not removed from the quest list because they have more than one part. Is this true?

They should be removed as they're completed from the Quest log, but not the journal entries themselves.

It could be that they still have things going on, but not knowing if your game has been patched or what quests in particular, it could just be a bug.

I am thinking that it must be a bug but I seem to recall It always played that way. I do have comments about quests like taking the glove from the lady and giving it to the bandit and returning to the lady with a note from the bandit about his acceptance but the entry in the journal is still there..
I also have a quest given to me to find the person who murdered a relative and she gives me the key to the house and tells me to find the killer but there are no clues in the house just the body.

The lady and the bandit has a bit more. After taking the glove to the bandit and the note back to the lady, the lady sends you to meet someone else.
If you're character is male, it will be Emusette Bracques at the Plot and Plaster in Tel Aruhn.
If female, Barnand Erelie at Sethan's Tradehouse in Tel Branora.

Need more clarification for the murder.
Did you receive it in Balmora, The Death of Ralen Hlaalo? In that case, there was a witness in one of the upstairs rooms who can give you the murderer's description.

i HAVE SO MANY THINGS GOING ON:KneelingBow: I solved the murder but the culprit was a bad orc that I killed in an early quest for the fighters guild who lived in Belmora in a house on the SW corner of the city not the guy who the girl tips you off to find.

the lady did give me the name and I am going to go there but a lot of frustrating thing have happened. I found the office in Vivic where the guy gives you the "Find the murderer" killing people and I thought it was the right office but he never offered the quest.

I think there are still flaws in some quests that if things are not done a certain way they get messed up. I will give it another couple of days but I do not think that it will work out due to confusing way some things are done. thanks for the help

It’s worth noting that if a level 20+ character has 50 reputation upon visiting the Cavern of the Incarnate & obtaining Moon and Star, they can just bypass all of the 7 Neverarine+Hortator quests and go straight to the Temple Archcanon & speak directly to Vivec.

This first requires completing a number of guild quests however , and out of the 8 joinable factions with quests (Mages/Fighters/Thieves Guilds, Temple, Legion, Cult, Tong, 1 Great House), Fighters & Thieves Guilds’ standard quests don’t increase reputation.

Outside of this however, all that Reputation does is slightly increase disposition & dialogue options from NPC’s.

OP, I think you got the murder mystery in Balmora wrong. The orc isn't the actual culprit, he's been framed for it. The true murderer is on the first floor of the Council Club; the Dunmer with the red mohawk.

That's the Hlaalo murder - no orcs involved.

There's another quest for the fighters guild to kill an Orc in Balmora wanted for murder, might be referring to that one.

the blade is quicker than the brain. I got the contract for the Orc but just rushed him and did not talk to him so the quest was completed and the murder quest could not be complicated. I do hope the rewrite closes some of the faulty quests so this thing can't happen.
I think I will have to stop playing this game (again) and wait till it is either redone or fixed but I doubt that will ever happen. If by some miracle it is done it will be a mandatory install before it can be played

That's not what I meant, and in any case, I misspoke. The orc is tied to a completely different quest, one for the FIghter's Guild. The murder mystery is part of a Thieve's Guild quest, and partly tied to a quest for an Imperial Legion officer by the name of Larrius Varro, in Fort Buckmoth.

this is an example how the "QUESTS" are handled in this game. They are tied together to the point where strange things happen. when I told the women who gave me the fin the murderer quest I was given credit for finding the killer of they guy who was dead in the house.
The "Bad people" quest was one I found out about by speaking to a AJ person and the spoke to Varro. I killed all the "Bad People" then saved and had to redo the quest from that save before getting credit for it and the ring.
The first time Varro thanked me and gave me the ring and upon leaving the castle the guards arrested me. The second time (from the SAME save) Varro said he had heard of the murders and I was arrested. The third time (from the SAME save all went well. This is the reason I stopped playing the game after several other things happened like the exploring failed to reveal the terrain of the tiles they passed through....this is why I am close to quitting this game again because if things worked the way they were designed to work I could enjoy the game but with all the bugs its just to hard for an old guy to deal with
