The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Morrowind mainland. Did the developers run out of time?
I am enjoying the game, as the hours on Steam can verify, but I do have a nagging question. Why wasn't the mainland of Morrowind - with the exception of Mournhold - included in the game? If someone created a game called 'United States', and you could only access everything east of the Mississippi plus Los Angeles, you'd scratch your head wondering.

Yeah, I am one of those players, who was curious enough to try swimming to the mainland south of Ebonheart. Just endless sea, it would seem.

I believe that it took up too much data for the time, also morrowind ended up being released late. I don't think they were going to make in the first place, but if they did try to make it it would have delayed the release for a while

Vvardenfell is big already, lore wise they made it more detailed than it was before (pre-MW), when it was just a volcano island with couple of settlements and a major dungeon.
Compare it now to Skyrim and Oblivions Cyrodill, those places had rich worldbuilding in the lore but in reality both of games develoeprs covered way less content (and omitted many of interesting stuff) that lead to a great disappointment, (see oblivion)

As for Morrowind main land i thing Tamriel Rebuild team is doing a good job at recreating "missing" mainland, the only problem is that probably my grandkids will enjoy it when it will be finished

The reason is actually pretty simple. At the time, the devs were a mere few steps from going out of business. Morrowind was their last desperate attempt to survive. It was their "Final Fantasy". Fortunately, the game did amazingly well and things only got better for Bethesda since then. So yeah, pretty sure they initially ran out of time and then probably played it safe for a while with small expansions.

Did Bethesda not do well with Daggerfall?

From what I remember, Daggerfall did okay. But "okay" wasn't enough to keep them in business after making too many poorly received games. It definitely was tough times for them.

That's a shame. I think the game is quite underrated, the only thing I didn't like about it was how buggy it was.

I installed Tamriel Rebuild, but haven’t had any time to explore it. Does TR have quests, or is this strictly a project for creating the rest of Morrowind's mainland?

If I am not mistaken there a multitude of quests in Tamriel Rebuilt. Parts of the mainland, however, remain empty.

That sounds like a hot new idea, we should call it 'Fallout'.

The idea is to have the full Mainland with quests and guilds working accordingly, however at this point the Mainland is like at 70% and the quests guild and working cities at 40%.

Mostly the Telvanni Areas are finished: http://www.tamriel-rebuilt.org/sites/default/files/TR_TravelRoutes_Solstheim-75.png

You don't have clearance. You're a convict, after all.
