Question: Item storage?
So I got Morrowind a short while back, and I'm loving it. But I've run into a big issue...

Where's a "safe" place to put all my stuff?

Whether it's unique items or moon sugar alchemical ingredients, there's just too much random crap weighing me down! Is there any good place to store stuff?

...Or will I have to get some kind of convenience mod like some kind of filthy casual?

Getting yourself a house mod for Morrowind is not being a filthy casual since Bethesda failed to provide us with enough player housing with safe storage in the vanilla game. There are a few shacks around that you can use in the vanilla game but I forget wether they have safe storage. Otherwise you have to join one of the three Great Houses (Telvanni, Hlaalu or Redoran) and go through a long quest to get your own outpost home.

It is easier to just get a house mod. There are many lore-friendly ones that do not add too much fluff and/or cheaty stuff.

Varo manor. Comes with a quest to earn it, and is not exquisite. It has a book and alchemy sorter. Quite well done.

You won't be a filthy casual unless you download a house that is freely given to the player, and/or is stuffed with fat lutes.

I know, guys, it's just that installing gameplay-altering mods for my first 5000 hours of gameplay just feels... icky. That's just the way I am :P

You should join a great house then.

I guess I'll go do the Great House thing, and keep that Varo Manor* thing in mind in case the vanilla house situation turns out to be absolutely unbearable.

*It's in Caldera, huh? I only just now discovered the magic of that town. A complete and unguarded Master's Alchemy Set that's easily reached early on? Ha! Not to mention that merchant. I'm guessing you all know the one.

Its not unbearable. The manors you recieve will be more substantial in size and appeal than Varo Manor. However, they will not have alchemy nor book sorters. Personally I would not like to play without the alchemy sorter. Never again shall I sort ingredients into urns, sacks, and crates.

You dirty thief, you.

No need for mods. There are houses in Morrowind you can unofficially take over. I use the Hlaalo Manor in Balmora West where the dead dude is.

There's a nice empty apartment on the north side of Saint Delyn's, Waistwork level I believe, but don't quote me on that, in Vivec that is convienent and more than satisfactory for a lower level player. It's what I used on my most recent playthrough until I got my Stronghold.

And then I destroyed the Heart before remembering to do any of this. Great work, brain!

the starting town has a house you can get. you dont officially own it but you can store your junk there. its the house you free up if you complete the quest to find the killer of the tax collector in seedya neen. kill the killer and you get his fishing shack

Kill someone and take their house. Drop all your alchemy components in one pile(you can drop items exactly where you stand).

Or, you can go to the alchemist in Balmora (Near hlaalu house), and use that as temporary storage, you can buy mark and recall potions from her there.

heres what ive heard

i was told if you kill someone their house is now yours...

some corpses never disappear (and they never repopulate either one is near where you start that tax guy...

dropped items never disappear...

your faction house(hlallu) gives your a actual house at some point...

if you have the DLCs you can do the raven rock questline pretty fast and get a nice house.
