Morrowind not running on Windows 10
I am running a high-end gaming laptop, so my PC is not an issue, I have Winows 10.
When I try to run Morrowind, the Play menu comes up, checks my shiz, says something in the ballpark of 'can't find the shiz, defaulting to medium quality'. I hit play, and a black screen is all that shows. I let it sit for about 20 minutes, and it never changed. I have to hard reset my laptop, because opening Task Manager just results in showing the taskbar, and being unable to show the manager. Same problem with windowed mode. I've never played before, and I'd really like to have the story. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you fix it? Also, my steam files don't even show a folder for Morrowind at all, though there's one for every other game I own.
P.S. Please try to explain like I'm five, I'm not incredibly computer proficient.
Thanks in advance!
UPDATE: Oblivion is having the same problem.

Have you tried running them in compatibility mode? I know a guy who`s game wouldn`t work at all until he did that, it`d just crash to the launcher when he tried launching it.

Yeah! My wife asked the same type of question yesterday on a similar but older thread and has not gotten a clear cut response. I've just posted this question on the Great House Fliggerty forum for the modding community. But I'll add my two cents here as well. So do any of you Morrowind gamers use Win 10, and if the compatability mode doesn't work I'd sure like to know it before I put my money down on a new machine.

How do you run compatibility mode?

Windows 10 should have a "Help" feature - look for a ? button, or the Word Help or something like it. Click it and there should be a little window open up where you can ask your question "How do I run compatability mode" Microsoft should tell you if your version of Win 10 supports compatability with Win 7 or 8 - if you have a high end gaming rig it should. If you bought from a store like Microcenter they should be able to get you up and running (at least my local Microcenter helps their customers with a full time on site tech support team - which is why they can stay in business with the on-line comperition).

I have win10 and both morrowind and oblivion working fine straight out of the box. Clear unmodded versions are running and modded versions are running too. I installed only overhaul on morrowind, you can try that but it is really strange that you dont have Morrowind folder in steam games, I have that.

I know that this is an old post. But I was having the same issue. I tried many things, but in the end, I found that the answer was to turn off team viewer. There may be other applications that are open that also conflict. Check your active applications to be sure.
We're going to lock this thread up so it doesn't get necro'd again in the future. Thanks for your understanding.
