The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind

Combat mod?
I love Morrowind, but the combat is just a huge turn-off for me. I've got it modded up to look modern, and I know that I can just cheat to make my skills really high and hit things every time, but the animations are so simple and prehistoric it still LOOKS really bad. Are ther any mods that modernize combat?

This game was made in 2002. What did you expect?

This is the best combat mod you're going to find for Morrowind. Take it, or leave it. :dealwithit:

I tried that mod and in my opinion it breaks the game.
As soon as you enter combat mode (weapon drawn) your magicka fully recovers almost instantly. Magicka should be the hardest bar to recover but with this mod you can cast spells non-stop.
Personally I would go for the Fair Magicka Regen mod which gives you a really small Magicka Regen depending on your Willpower and leave the overall combat vanilla.

I recommend that combat mod for new players who ask for a combat mod. So I gave him what he asked for. :dealwithit: He still has to level up most of his other skills with that mod. It's still better than a noob console command cheat.

People like the op will probably just not play Morrowind AT ALL if they can't hit their target every time. There is no 'right way' to play Morrowind after all.

Actually, I've played Morrowind before. That was my first playthrough, and it was one of the first things I played on PC (I was a console gamer). Back then I thought cheats were the coolest things on earth and my characters in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim were pretty much gods. I'm going through them all again without cheats because when I think back to it, cheating really ruined the games.

I never even use Magicka, I've always enjoyed the melee and archery play styless the most, so it probably won't be game-breaking for me.

If the mods not working for you, you can look up who trains the weapon you like. Then pay money to up it a lot so you almost never miss. The default combat system does come with the benefit of that enemies can miss you too. Which is something The thief birth sign adds too.

You can also pick the birthsign the Warrior so you miss even less, pick a race with a bonus to the weapon you like. You can also create a custom class with the weapon skill you want.

You can also try to start with or quickly train agility up.

Combat is slightly more interesting with always use best attacked turned off.

I'm just gonna throw a tip out as well.

When fighting enemies that don't pose much threat to you, use the weakest attack without holding it down (the weakest attack, in this case, being the one with the lowest range, as damage itself is not truly random, being dictated by how long you hold the attack button down.)

In Morrowind, every successful hit provides the same experience for that weapon skill no matter how much damage you deal, so when you're not fighting for your life, you want to use attacks that barely deal any damage to get the maximum experience potential out of the fight.

rewriting animations = making a new game

Not necessarily. I'm no Morrowind modder, or I would do it myself, but it won't break a game to replace animations. I'm not even talking about npc animations, I'm talking about my character's animations in first person. There are plenty of mods for Skyrim that add or replace animations for doing things, as well as some that I've seen that change the way you stand or hold your sword. If they can change things on the third person models of characters, which sounds far more complex in a fairly similar game, (Oblivion and Skyrim's engines seems like more advanced forms of Morrowind's) why can't they simpy change the animation of how my weapon swings in front of me?
